dg
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? It's no question that that the midwest may house the biggest bucks. But that does not mean that the folks who take them there are better hunters. (although they would like to make you think so). Large fields of crops get condensed real quick into small wooded areas there. So the attention span is huge to small areas of woods. Compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. And you'll find a 100 class buck (in a highly human populated area) a superior challenge vs a 150+ in condensed farmland.
Tony
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? Really ? dont you mean that " any mature buck in any area is a challenge to take ". mature being over 4 years old.. thats the problem with most of these videos out there and the views of many bowhunters . they make it seem easy to shoot a 150 class buck in the Midwest . i can vouch for myself as saying nope they are not. just because i live in iowa , we dont have 150 class and up bucks behind every rock tree and bush and they are so easy to shoot that its like fish in a barrel.. many non residents come here and hunt a whole week and see nothing but small bucks.. i can say that they arent the easiest to hunt. heck i havent shot one and i bowhunt around 60 days each season. i have been trying to get one for 12 years now with bow. sure i have seen plenty of small 120 to 130 class bucks and i have a few . but its not as easy as that . dont say that a country farm buck is easy to hunt. they are just as much a challenge as any buck out there Shoot Strong Tony

magnatecsteve
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? I live in North Central Indiana, and the hunting around here is getting better each year, especially since the DNR adopted the one buck per year law. We're smack dab between Ill, Ohio, Mich, Kentucky, and a stones throw from Wisconsin...so we got the potential!! I would like to hunt more up in Wisconsin... been there once and loved it. A second chioce, Missouri?
SaskMan
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? It's kind of nice to see alot of guys standing behind their home states, we should be proud of where we come from. I'll do the same thing and stand behind where I live, world record typical, 5 typicals with net scores over 200, far and away the best avg. of B&C bucks per hunter anywhere in the world. And did I mention our bucks FILL a truck box. I'll stay right here at home.

ODH
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Take the Beaty Buck for example, world record non-typical taken with a bow for a while, or world record typical taken by crossbow. Ohio is becoming a great deer state. [/ QUOTE ] I hope your joking, the Beatty buck. I dont know if I spelled his name correctly. Just look at your old Ohio hunting regulations from I think 2001-2002. He's on the front cover. Ohio has big deer. No question. Beatty who? Never heard of him. Never heard of that Jerman fella' either. Oklahoma, clearly a sleeper state. Or, proven hog producer Iowa. Tominator
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? Beatty? Jerman? Rex? Nope, never heard of them. Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois is where it's at.

bwlacy
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? I will have to say Iowa. Since I already sent a deposit in to the outfitter. Hope to draw a tag next year and be there the first or second week of Nov. Here in MI if you have access to some big farms in the southern part of the state you can find some big deer. Where I hunt if you get a shot at anything over 100 that very well may be the best buck in the area. Our DNR just lets everyone kill too many, I've heard that Michigan hunters kill 80 to 90% of the 1 1/2 old bucks every year. In 24 years of bowhunting I can count on one hand the bucks I've seen over 130, and I hunt alot.
BowJoe
Re: GIANT DEER STATE OF CHOICE ??? Whatever you do don't buy land in Illinois. All those big deer are just imported from other giant states like Iowa, Mo, KY, IN, WI, OH, KS, MI. We just pay them to say they are from IL. In fact, I'm thinking of relocating to Florida where they have huge little deer. Gosh, I'm almost ashamed to say I'm from IL. No deer whatsoever!!!
