Guest fourtrax_300
Re: Official IL Firearm Hunting Thread guess i'm first ! i hunted this morning and saw a few does and fawns about 125 yards away but could not get a shot. then i saw a decent sized buck for around here about 40 yards away but he spoked and ran into the shadder grass that he came out of. darn the luck ! then i got down at 9:00 am cause i heard my grandpa shoot his sweet 16 browning 16 guage up by my house. so i walk out and dont see any deer or other hunters. i walk down the fourwheeler trail and i see him up on a hill by his ladder stand so i walk up and ask him where the deer is. he says he dont know. he told me he was in his truck at the edge of the woods in my driveway . he was there cause he got too cold and came to warm up. anyways he sees a buck walk out in the woods and gets out and shoots at it while it;s in full run. but we did not recover the deer nor see any blood, hair, etc so we think he had a bad slug cause the slugs he had were 5 years old. he went out and bought new slugs today. overall a bumer cause i love to see my grandpa still killing deer. NOW THE GOOD PART ! We both headed out to our hunting locations at 2:00 pm and i climed my hill and unfolded my chair and got settled in. i'm sitting there watching the squirrels play when all of a sudden i see i deer and i get exicited. then i see that it is a alright buck and it has what i thought was 8 pointer cause i saw 6 and fiquired there would bwe brow tines too. so he walked up closer to the hill i was on and i turned and put the crosshairs on him and shot a coppersolid slug right into him at about 20 feet. he then kicked did a U turn and ran off and droped about 40 yards away. turns out that he has no brow tines and so the make him a 6 pointer. not a bad buck and my second 6 buck all together. i'll have pics up soon

Mach1
Re: Official IL Firearm Hunting Thread Didn't even see a deer that I wanted to shoot at. Saw a bunch of deer, but the big guys were locked up with does and didn't make any appearances. Only small bucks and does and fawns.
6sixpoint_nobrows
Re: Official IL Firearm Hunting Thread i saw one monster buck and i got within 30 yards of him without even knowing it, see he was around this bend in the timber, and my dad was on a high ridge just waiting for me to step out of the bend and take him....but i never knew he was there and i went another way...lol
need2hunt
Re: Official IL Firearm Hunting Thread We took 2 does, a button buck and a decent 9 pointer in Southern IL... I'll agree with Mach1... the big boys were locked down with the does
ilhnter
Re: Official IL Firearm Hunting Thread We took a doe, button buck, and a three pointer. Didn't see many deer so we came to the conclusion that we better shoot at the first thing that comes by. We all filled our tags and put meat in the freezer. Not a bad weekend. 6sixpoint_nobrows
Re: Official IL Firearm Hunting Thread my buddies brother shot a nice 9 point i buddy passed him up at 100 yards because he was running right for his little brother with a doe aheead of him, i buddy got on his radio and told his little brother who had never killed a deer before that there was a monster running to his stand all the sudden he heard BOOM! his little brother shot the deer first in the throat...in excitment they his brother travis and older brother matt ran over to him and they started looking for the deer...they then found him and surprisingly the buck jumped up and matt shot it twice, and then it fell down again, they gave the gun to there little brother and when they walked over to the deer again he tryed to get up again but shot it on more time and he was done....this buck will score in the mid 150's...ill try and see if they have any pics...hes at the taxidurmists right now.
