Mirage
Has anyone bowhunted from one of those pop up tent type blinds and if so do they work well, Will they spook the deer? Are they water proof in the rain, is hard to hungt from. I was thinking of getting one next year beacuse there is the one are that dosnt have any good trees to set up on, do you have to leave it out for a long time for the deer to get used to it? Are they still skiddish when they come around? can you stand when you shoot do you sit on the ground or ion a chair?
Guest nebraskahunter
Re: Blind hunting?? I have hunted from a cabelas quick set blind. It didnt seem to spook the deer, but it did seem to spook the turkeys, its not a bad blind for one hunter alittle tight fop two.
PAbowhunter86
Re: Blind hunting?? I have hunted from the ameristep Doghouse, I liked it. You have to remain seated to shoot but it didnt seem to spook anything. Umm I used it for turkey hunting during the rain and I was able to stay dry, and out there long because of that. Tominator
Re: Blind hunting?? I have. I have yet to shoot a deer from my blind yet, but I've been close a few times. Setting them out in the middle of nowhere would be a mistake I think, but if you conceal them, and brush them up a bit, they work in certain situations. bozz
Re: Blind hunting?? I shot a few in a blind over the years....this year got one at 10 yards and pass on a doe at 10' waiting on something else.....man it was hard can't even believe I pass on her with a slam dunk shot....but I have meat sooooo.......I won't let it happen again....ha ! I'm really impress with my Brickhouse pop up blind as a matter of fact I may not get up in a tree again.....Deer have not even look at my blind...seen me or smell me once...at these close ranges......I do brush mine in real good.....and set it behind a few trees clump together.....the second day up I shot a deer point blank with my bow....I do leave it out for weeks in my backyard woods.....they pay it no attention what-so-ever.....only disadvantage is the view vs. a tree stand.....which you can see further in......but I've been busted so many times in a tree. Guest mnarcher
Re: Blind hunting?? I too have a Brickhouse TSC and it is a great blind. I can set it up in less than a 5 minutes and with the leafy cover on it already it is pretty much ready to go right away. I have not shot anything in it yet but I am hoping to change that soon. Now that we have snow on the ground and it is getting colder out I may start to use it more. I was thinking that when the sun comes out it may be warmer in the blind then in a tree stand. I am not too sure about the shoot through windows so I don't think I will use them. A buddy of mine shot a doe this year at 5 yds out of his Cabela's ground blind. Another guy I know has had does stick their head in the window to see what was inside while he was in the blind. I mainly bought it so that I can take my 7 and 9 year old sons out with me. VTbowman
Re: Blind hunting?? I had a Ameristep Doghouse in RT Green last year and set it up one afternoon along a field edge in front of a leafy round tree that was larger around then the blind. It was set up in deep grass too. It was in full sunlight and not brushed up at all. I had a couple doe come out at well over 200 yards and immediately pick me off. Not sure if it was sheen from the sun of thier fabric or wind flap but they saw it the instant they hit the green field. I sold it. My brother has the exact same blind and we set it up a couple weeks before the bow season this year, brushed it up, but not real well, and he had deer within feet of it, even 15 turkeys walked right by him. I had a 15' shot on a spike but since they are not legal this year I was forced to just watch it. Same feild I was in the year before. I think for the money the AmeriStep blinds are real good but due to the type of materials they use, setting them up, and brushing them in, well in advance is the way to go. I think the longer its set up before a hunt with any blind the better. JMO and my personal experiences with that blind.
HitRmisS
Re: Blind hunting?? i have tukey hunted out of them before and they worked well but i tried to deer hunt from one this year and i sat it up a week in advance and the deer were spooky of it still and wouldnt get close enough for a shot, however where i had to put it was up gainst a blown over tree so there was good back cover but i couldnt conceal it very well from the front so that probally contributes to my lack of success
double_drop
Re: Blind hunting?? Got a doghouse pop up blind and it works very well if you can put it next to brush. If it is out in the open at least around here the deer pick it out very well unlike what the turkeys do.
bozz
Re: Blind hunting?? P.S.,.......had a doe almost stick her head in the window of my B.H.,...I think she was sniffing the deer scent I spray on the netting over the windows she never look at the blind much and just walk away from 3' mext to me.....and I did shoot a deer out of it after it was set only 1 day.....I do have the Max-4d camo which looks really good....and did brush it in well ....squirrels even dig right next to the blind walls.....I like them so much I bought another one for my boy to hunt out of.....
