Anyone know where I can send my hide to get it tanned, guess I would also need them to turn the lips eyes and ears.... I was going to try and do this myself but it looks like you can ruin your hide real easy turning the lips and such ... if anyone has a place that can turn the ears knose eyes and mouth and tan the hide let me know ....

Thanks

Steve

Look under for tanneries for your home state. They al do just that for taxidermists. May take 6 months to a year to get it back though.

Whats the chances of a first timer doing it and not butchering the cape?.... be honest... is it worth me to send it out ... should I try and get some does for shotgun season and practice on them?... is it the same for a doe and buck as far as turning lips and such?.... I think I can do the tanning part just not sure I wanna ruin the cape ... you know what I mean?

Re: Tanning hides

My suggestion to you is a get a good DVD on deer mounting. Wasco sells them and as does Vandykes. Watch it over and over again. Until then keep your capes in the freezer (do not salt them). Yes it is the same for doe as buck in the lip preperation area. You cant go wrong with a good video. It is not hard to do, I think you can do it.
