Guest lucky_erickson
Can't go wrong with a ruger!!!! Remington makes a good rifle too. I think the A-bolt is a little to spendy.
Reloader
Re: .243 Bolt Action Remington 700 CDL's are a great gun, as are the Ruger M77s, and the Abolt. If you are looking for the best money can buy, in a factory gun, I would be torn between the CDL and the M77. If you are looking for the best rifle for the money though I would go with a Savage Model 11f...or if you want a scope to come with the gun the Model 11FXP3 . They are very acurate shooters and famous for being rugged no matter what you throw at them.
David_218
Re: .243 Bolt Action Nothing wrong with either a Remington, Winchester M-70, CZ M-550, or Ruger .243 Rifle. I even think Remington is chambering their Model 673 Guide Rifle in .243. I bought one of these in .308 and it's a really neat rifle, feels well built, and not cheap. snapper
Re: .243 Bolt Action Did you ever consider a Weatherby Vanguard compact? They are reasonably priced and you get the full Vanguard stock with it. So you could take the compact stock off and set it up for an adult...then have the shorter stock for a youth hunter. Just a thought. Can't really go wrong with alot of the guns on the market today.

robk
Re: .243 Bolt Action i just built a 243 out of a mauser action and it shoots great. no recoil to worry about and it seems to be easy to get around and shoots like you want it too. i am working on trying to find a good factory load for it and i am trying the 85 grain hollowpoint boattail for my next round and eveyrone i talk to says the the hollowpoint boatail 85 to 87 grains is the best roudn for them for factory and if you reload then you can work up some loads in the 100 game kings and you will like them if yor looking for a good little gun and not wanting to put out a lot of money savage has a couple of the guns in 243 that are very excellent shooters and will do you a fine job. look at their kit guns as it comes with a scope and sling and everythign you need including the gun is boresighted for you from the factory and you can get them for under 400 dollars. go to walmart or one of your local shops like them or academy or bass pro and check them out as well and you will find some guns in your price range. if your not worried about price then of course you can go which ever way you want but even then the savage rifles are excellent guns with great craftsmanship and for the money will shoot as well as any top of the line rifle maker. rob k
AJ
Re: .243 Bolt Action Since you stated you liked the Savage why not the Model 14? It has a nice walnut stock with contrasting forend tip. There is nothing wrong with the other guns mentioned though.
wtnhunt
Re: .243 Bolt Action Personally I really like the model 700's, they just seem to fit me well and have a good balanced feeling. Remington, Ruger, Winchester, Browning or Savage, get what feels best to you, they all make good bolt guns.
AJ
Re: .243 Bolt Action The Savage 11 uses a hardwood stock that is walnut finished. Its probably birch. The metal polishing is mediocre at best. The Savage 14 is a highly polished and deep blued gun. It uses a nice walnut stock with contrasting forend tip. Mainly cosmetic changes. The action, trigger, and barrel are still the same.
