My friends birthday buck

My good friend, and hunting buddy Eric, turned 40 today so I took him out bow hunting with me to one of my favorite spots. He hasn't been able to hunt much this year due to his wife going through cancer treatments, but he had a few hours this morning free so for his birthday I took him to a location where I've been seeing deer for the past few days and set him up in one of my favorite trees. Just before legal shooting light I said a prayer and asked God that if any deer came to our location this day please let them walk in front of my friend who's been through so much this year. At 8:12 am we had 4 does walk in on us, one of them giving Eric a good shot, but he cleanly missed. I motioned for him to stay in the stand and be quiet and sure enough, 2 minutes later, a nice 7 pointer started coming our way. It looked like he was heading straight for my buddy, but the buck turned and started walking away. I reached into my pocket, pulled out "the can" and gave a few bleats. At the first bleat the buck stopped, turned his head, sniffed the air, then made a left turn and walked straight towards Erics tree. At 10 yards Eric dropped the buck dead in his tracks. I don't know if Eric and I will get to hunt again togeather this season due to his wifes treatment schedule, but he's got a nice 7 pointer that he's gonna have mounted, a supply of venison to enjoy during the winter, and a 40th birthday that he won't soon forget. I won't forget his birthday either,, being able to help my buddy harvest his deer and sitting there getting to watch the episode play out made this hunt my most enjoyable day in the woods in a long time. We didn't have time to take any pictures as my friend had to get home to his wife, otherwise I would've posted them.
