Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: How much growth can happen... On the ranch I hunt, it's not unusual to to see 20 - 30 inches additional growth. I've got several 3.5 year old bucks bucks that were 115 - 120 last year and will go 135 - 145 this year.
wtnhunt
Re: How much growth can happen... Think how much growth in a years time depends alot on the available nutrition in the area and the deers genetics.

[ QUOTE ] Think how much growth in a years time depends alot on the available nutrition in the area and the deers genetics. [/ QUOTE ] Yep, those are definitely factors too. My observations were from two years with approximately the same range conditions.
dogdoc
Re: How much growth can happen... In last months edition of D&DH magazine there is an article by Charles Alsheimer that shows pics of a bucks first 5 years. At 1 1/2 he was a spike--probably 3 inch spikes. At 2 1/2 he was a basket 8--probably scored in the 90's. At 3 1/2 he is a really nice 122" 8 pointer and at 4 1/2 he is a massive 164" eleven pointer. So don't think a spike will always be an inferior buck--it's just not true! todd

He followed the growth of several spikes and showed some pretty incredible antlers.
