firefighter
Need some help guys ..... The area that the land i'm going to be hunting on is shotgun/muzzle loader only ,,, Now i have a muzzy already, and i do have a shotgun remington 1100 but i use it for geese n duck hunting. I've tried to shoot slugs out of it before and the pattern was way off and i knew it would be. The question is, would a 870 express 12 gauge smooth bore be good enough for slugs to get me buy until i could afford to buy a good slug gun ? I think it was either dicks or walmart that has them on sale....... also what about the choke?
lil hunter
Re: Shotgun Question Help Why don't you just buy a slug barrel for your 1100. That'd be cheaper than getting a new 870. Cabelas has a few choices for the 1100. You can get a smooth bore, with remchokes to use. Put in an improved cylinder choke(reccomended by remington) and then use foster slugs. Or they have a rifled barrel, where you could use the foster slugs, or the more expensive sabots. Or if your willing to spend a little more money, you can get a rifled barrel with a scope mount. If your shots will mainly be fairly short--75 yards or less--then i would suggest to buy the smoothbore slug barrel. It has rifle sights, which would be way easier to shoot accurately with, than the bead sights.

AJ
Re: Shotgun Question Help The county I hunt also stipulates buckshot or muzzleloader during gun season. I take the ML since I can shoot more accurately and farther than with buckshot and even slugs. You can also get a H&R/NEF slug gun. They run about $200 give or take depending on the model and they are super accurate slug guns.

Tominator
Re: Shotgun Question Help I don't think a smooth bore 870 will be any better than a smoothbore 1100. I'd go with lil's advice and look into a rifled bore for the 1100, or go with your ML.
