HuntingInMaine
Re: First Time, Any Tips?? Patience, patience, patience.......did I mention you should use patience??? Stay calm (or at least try to, my heart jumps out of my chest and then stops beating until it's all over! lol) and don't feel pressured to take a shot you aren't sure of. Much better to let it walk then to wound it. Have fun and good luck!
firefighter
Re: First Time, Any Tips?? Patience,,,, that the best thing to take with you,, If your going to be out all day ,,, add toilet paper to the list ... Just in case ... You going to be in a stand or ground ? If your on the ground you might want to consider getting a camo backpak instead of a fannypak, that way you can take snacks n water with you.... knife Deer drag scent killer mini mag flashlight extra bullets hand warmers deer scents (if using) warm gore-tex clothing 1000 gram thinsulate gore-tex boots fanny pack to carry your items binoculars gun sighted in at 100 yards toilet paper

johnf
Re: First Time, Any Tips?? Get plenty of sleep the night befor. Don't drink coffee if you don't have a bladder for it. Use some sort of rest to aim, even if your shooting 30 yards. You'll get nervous. Get some sort of scent elemintation or mask. I use scent-a-way, it's realatively cheap and works great. Don't move or make any noise unless you absolutely have too. If your a first time hunter I wouldn't take any kind of call. You'll want to use it more than you should. If you need to stop a deer that's close, snort, whistle quietly or even grunt at him, he'll stop for a second to look. Last year a friend of mine yelled at one who was at a dead run. It stopped then dropped.

I'll warn you now and most here will admit when and if you do get lucky enough to see a whitetail you're going to think your heart is going to jump out of your chest. Those darn critters just seem to pop out of the earth when you least expect it. Good Luck and have fun..
