Don't let my job fool you

I get so many comments on having the dream job. Working in the hunting industry, hunting for a living, etc.

Well, last night I had the truck packed, bow tuned, practiced shooting etc. I was headed out this morning for a 4 day Kentucky "Prime Rut" bow hunt. But after I checked email last night and saw all that we had going on in the office, I sent an email out to cancel the hunt. I unloaded the truck and was back in the office at 8 this a.m.

I am now looking at over a year since I personally have hunted (two years since a bow hunt). I haven't turkey hunted in three years. I shot some dove last fall and shot two does in October with my rifle. After that I let my oldest boy Jack do all the hunting and sat with him for the remainder of the season.

I do have a tag paid and drawn for on a Illinois muzzleloading hunt next month, but that is shakey at this time on whether I will make it or not. I hope to certainly get a shot at a doe during the holidays but then have to get ready for trade shows the entire month of January.

Some dream job huh? Still wouldn't trade it for any other!grin.gif S

Re: Don\'t let my job fool you

I wouldn't trade ya Scott.

I love my job. I get every weekend during hunting season off plus two weeks vacation. Soon I will be eligible for three weeks.

Of course, I don't get to chit-chat with Waddell, Jordan, and Blanton every other day, but some of our customers our pretty darn interesting. wink.gif

Re: Don\'t let my job fool you

I have never been to GA yet and am looking for an excuse to go.

I am retired and have contributed my time for many worthwhile causes. (Your cause seems just and worthy)

Your problem is solved.

I can be there in one day travel time and will relieve you for one week.

I require no salary so all you need to do is hook me up with some free room and board, and you can pay for my fuel.

Please notify me at least one day in advance and you must leave me a note telling me what your job is.

I can drink coffee with the best of them, type well enough to communicate my thoughts, and talk on the phone even better.

I have been told I have a southern accent, but nothing close to Georgian.

I may need a tutor to help with the acccent.

This is your lucky day. .....popgun

Re: Don\'t let my job fool you

I wouldnt trade you either Scott. My job might be hard, and can be a litle dangerous at times but I still make time to hunt almost every night during season.

Honestly I wouldnt want any of your jobs there at realtree, even hunting across the country and shooting big bucks would have to get old every year, escpecially when your traveling and away from your family for such long periods.I actually can burn myself out on deer hunting just hunting everyday around here and sometimes I need to take a couple days off from it just to get excited about it again. And I dont have schedules to keep, deadlines to meet, or videos to get out on time.Really as much as I love hunting, doing it for a living would just suck, it would take a lotta the fun out of it.

Re: Don\'t let my job fool you

You should have went anyway Scott. We only have a limited amount of time to hunt each year and you can bet the work will still be there when you get back.

Tell you what...I live in Alabama less than 200 miles northwest of Columbus, GA so if you and your boys want to turkey hunt with me this spring...it's on! I'm serious. You haven't turkey hunted in 3 years...don't make it 4!

Re: Don\'t let my job fool you

That really is the pits Scott. frown.gif

Isn't there anyone that can fill in for you at the office or trade shows, so you can get out hunting?

I think maybe you could give one of the pro-staffers a break on all their hunting and go on one of their hunts for them, while they fill in at the office or a trade show for a few days. wink.gif ...Sounds like a good remedy. Some of them are probably saying "Gee, I'm so tired of hunting this year" crazy.gif

You need a break. Time to talk to the boss ooo.gif

Re: Don\'t let my job fool you

Thanks guys for all the offers and encouragement. I didn't make the post looking for anything. It was really for the folks who email in or think that it's all play and no work. I worked for Bassmaster magazine before I came here for 8 years and everybody thought I fished for a living. I was lucky to get on a boat 1 or 2 times a year.

It's not all bad. Work has to be done and it just makes it easier for me in December when I take as much time as I can. As long as I can get the boys out this season I'm cool with it. To be honest, since it was a hunt they wouldn't be going on I didn't feel as bad. If it would have been for them I would have done whatever needed to get them out there. S

I can remember a time long ago when the Mrs and I wanted to have children and she couldnt get pregnant. It got to the point that at times that the attempting wasnt anything but work. So I also would pass at your job unless it was part-time. grin.gif
