David_218
I have a large number of 150 grain .30-30 type silvertip bullets (old style) by Winchester. I was wondering if these would be usable in my .308 for Deer with a velocity of some 2,500 to 2,600 FPS? Just wonder if they would expand too much at these velocities and ruin a lot of meat? <THANKS>
AJ
Re: .30-30 Win. Silvertips in a .308 You should be ok. Damage is determined more by shot location. If you shoot the shoulder, you are gonig to loose meat. If the shot is behind the sholder going in and out, damage is minimal to meat. I would use them if they shot good. David_218
Re: .30-30 Win. Silvertips in a .308 Thanks, AJ! Loosing shoulder meat is nothing new to me. Shot a Doe, in KY this past week with my .270 and lost both shoulder meat. The other Deer I shot in the neck and lost no meat. I have a supply (one can) of WW 748 powder that I plan to use with the 150 grain silvertips, as I used this powder in my .30-30 when I owned one. I also use Speer Mag-tips 150 grain in the .308, and it seems to be super accurate with IMR-4064 powder.
