Guest J_Owens_66
I was lookin at winchester's book today, and they have a Model 70 Classic Custom Ultimate Classic(Left Hand one of the nicest left hand guns ive ever seen). It looks nice, has a stainless 26inch fluted barrel, pretty wood and get all the bells and whistles like engraving on this and that, pice is pretty steep though. How are winchester guns and how is this model? The retail price is around 3000 .
AJ
Re: Winchester Rifle Winchester has its fans and followers just like Remington does. I have a 70 Classic in .338 Win Mag. Its a good gun. Mine has the standard walnut stock and polished blued finish. When I first got it, I was zeroing the gun and was only able to get 4" groups. I started checking the gun over and found Winchester uses stuff like hot melt glue for bedding compound. This is unacceptable. I dug that crap out and did a proper pillar bedding job. The gun will now shoot 3/4" groups with Hornady and Remington Factory ammo. With my handloads, it will drop the group size a little more. Once the bedding was done, the rifle is a sweet shooter. I sure as shootin would not pay $3K for a factory gun. I would buy a custom gun with an accuracy guarantee.
Strut_Buster
Re: Winchester Rifle My dad and I love model 70's. We have a classic in 270 and a Super Shadow in 300 WSM. NEver grouped for accuracy but With my 300 WSM i can get the holes to touch at a hundred yards sometimes. I bet it groups on average at 1.5 inches but thats close enough!
