billygoat
I must be careful how I tell this story, due to HIPPA regulations... so let's say, over the Wisconsin 9 day opener, a 15 year old girl was hunting with her family in South western Wisconsin. As the story goes, she was walking when she tripped, dropped her gun (which was apparently on safety). As she fell to the ground, the shotgun too fell to the ground. The momentum of her fall, left the gun behind her, and the jolt of the shotgun hitting the ground caused the weapon to disarm, sending the slug into the young girls leg, below the knee. The slug entered below the knee, traveling up and exiting the hamstring on the anterior (front) side of her leg... resulting in a 3" whole. Remarkably, no bones or major arteries/vessels/tendons were damaged. She is currently in the Hospital... perhaps one that I work at, and I must say, as a hunter- it is quite odd to be around a "hunting accident victim". What do you say? It is definately a sad story. Apparently her 12 year old brother was the first to find her, and her father had to carry her out of the woods. Just sad... so I guess- hold onto those weapons, make sure they are on safety, and keep them pointed in a safe direction!

Ruff
Re: Wisconsin Hunting accident: 15 year old girl I was at my buds house yesterday afternoon butchering deer and he's on the fire department. While we were butchering a call came over the radio from disbatch for a abulance to meet hunters at a residence by Athens. Hunters were bringing out a shooting victom with a pass trough wound to the upper left leg. When they gave the Location my bud droped his knife and went almost pale and said that's right where his brother and his nephews hunt. Called them on the Cell no answer (Not Good!!) I could see the emotion welling up as time went on. I told him try again and this time he got through and the boys were home and dad was working so they were fine. The victom's bleeding was under control but don't know the seriousness of the wound as they just kept the hospital updated on vitals while in transport. buckee
Re: Wisconsin Hunting accident: 15 year old girl That's a frieky accident alright. I hope she pulls through without any life lasting injuries. This story sure is a good reminder to be extra cautious in the woods. Accidents do happen, but most can be avoided. Yellowhammer
Re: Wisconsin Hunting accident: 15 year old girl After reading this it made me think of what happened last year. A non-American was in a deer stand and when the family members(about 10 or so) asked him to leave he shot them with a automatic weapon killing several. Does anybody remember this, I forget what state it was in. What ever happened to this non-American?
shockwave
Re: Wisconsin Hunting accident: 15 year old girl i wonder if she was using an old bolt action shotgun ? My reason for wondering is that a guy i use to hunt with when i was just starting out had one of the bolt action shotties go off just from setting it butt down on the ground, he lost his hearing in his right ear from the gun going off as close as it did.. [/ QUOTE ] You're thinking of the Hmong immigrant in Wisconsin who supposedly wandered onto another families property to hunt and when the landowners showed up they supposedly hurled racial remarks at him and threatened. He proceeded to open fire on them with his SKS. He recently was found guilty I think 2-3 months ago for murder, not sure on the sentence though. P.S.- Weapon wasn't automatic, was a semi-automatic SKS that he reloaded at least once.
joebobhunter4
Re: Wisconsin Hunting accident: 15 year old girl thats bad luck... i trip over a lot of stuff but when i fall... i like to think of my scope being more important than my body... so i hold onto the gun and let the body fall into wherever without my hands... it hurts sometimes but my gun never hits the ground... sad to hear such a thing happening to such a young person...
