Canadian_Goose
My old man owns a .270 parker hale Safari . beutiful gun, it has killed many deer. the only pitfall is you have to take the safety OFF to open the bolt. That is one thing i don't like, mainly safety issues (ie:unloading unspent cartridges). Does anyone elses guns do this or does anyone know why this happens? AJ
Re: .270 Parker Hale In the olden days guns were designed to lock the bolt with the safety on. This kept the bolt from opening as the hunter was walking through cover. My older Rem 700 is that way. Remington recalled these guns a while ago, but they replace the trigger with a piece of crap from today. No thanks. The Parker Hale is a commercial Mauser 98 and you can have a 3 position safety installed to allow opening the bolt with the safety engaged. They are perfectly safe as long as the shooter applies some common sence. Personally, I don't see it as a big deal since I can empty the magazine without chambering a round. Just push the bolt forwards enough to allow the next round to pop up from the magazine then remove it. I even do my Rem 700 BDL that way. Canadian_Goose
Re: .270 Parker Hale i am not concerned about the rounds in the magazine but the one already chambered when i'm hunting. its not a huge deal i just thought it was odd
LifeNRA
Re: .270 Parker Hale My Browning .270 A-Bolt Medallion, you have to take the safety off in order to remove the chambered round. JUST KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER, AND HAVE THE GUN POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION!
