AJ
My new .45 Cal Disc Elite is finally broken in. I played with it at the range and had decent performance with the .357" 175 gr Dead Centers pushed by 135 gr (100gr by weight) of RS Pyrodex and ignited by a Vari Flame Adapter with Federal small rifle primers. I topped it with Leupold QR mounts and rings holding a Nikon Monarch 5.5-16x44 scope. I took it out today and a fat doe was in the wrong place at the right time. I like these bullets. Distance to shot = 35 yards, great blood trail, lots of damage, distance to recovery = 60 yards. Shot was ribcage classis behind the shoulder, double lung. It figures, I take the long range gun and shoot deer at 35 yards.
archerjg
Re: My Knight belched smoke again Congratulations on the doe. Do you think that the .45 caliber performs better than the .50 caliber muzzleloaders or is it about even in performance? Archerjg
magnatecsteve
Re: My Knight belched smoke again That's great! Nothin like the confidence you have when you take a shot and you KNOW without a doubt that the bullet will hit true and the deer will go down.... Congrats and good job!! Enjoy the doe. AJ
Re: My Knight belched smoke again [ QUOTE ] Do you think that the .45 caliber performs better than the .50 caliber muzzleloaders or is it about even in performance? Archerjg [/ QUOTE ] I don't see a huge difference. The .45 cal kicks less due to the lighter bullet. The difference is mainly with the bullet. I shot my buck this year with XTPs and had zero blood trail. Both deer ran about the same distance and the shots were similar, but the blood trail from the Dead Centers was what you typically see from a centerfire rifle. Blood from 20 yards after the hit all the way to the deer laying there dead. I think it's my medium range ML. I use my .50 Knight as a close range gun (out to 100 yards), the .45 Knight for medium range (out to 150 yards) and the Savage for long range (out to 250 yards). Now I have to get the Encore handgun bloody and it will be a perfect year.

AJ
Re: My Knight belched smoke again My hunting Buddy has been having a bad year. He is 0/3 with ML. He asked to borrow my .50 cal even though his is the same gun. Sure, no problem. I give him my gun and my loads. This morning a forkie horn walks out in front of him. The Knight roars and he has his #1 of the year. He shot it with the 220 gr Dead Centers. Great blood trail! The blood started about 3" after the shot. The deer only ran 35 yards and piled up but it was an easy blood trail if it was needed for tracking.

AJ
Re: My Knight belched smoke again The rut seems to be over here. The bucks are not chasing the does anymore, so its time to stock the freezer with does. One more and I will hold out for a nice buck. vagobbln
Re: My Knight belched smoke again Congrats on the doe AJ. What other bullets did you try before you settled on the Dead Centers? You said you got "decent" performance - what is decent?
AJ
Re: My Knight belched smoke again I shot the few bullets that came with the gun just to get it on paper. After that, I went to the Dead Centers. I am getting 1.25" groups at 100 yards with them. I just got in some 195 gr (.357") and some 200 gr (.40 cal) to see how they shoot. I definately plan to use the DC bullets. They perform superbly. My buddy is shooting the Knight Red Hot Bullets in his. His shoots pretty well, according to him. I don't know exactly what that translates to in group size but he is tickled with the performance he is getting.
