Were shingling a barn out in the country here.Dads got a treestand set up across the road from this place and the guy were shingling for lets us hunt all his land.Last night we were picking toolsd up and geting ready to head out hunting, I was putting my camo on and happened to look out across the field. There standing on to of the hill was a huge bodied deer.I started looking for my binocs and it dawned on me they were in my wifes van which I took hunting Sunday morning.Dad got his out but te deer came down off the hill and got outta sight in a little low spot.Sunday morning Id watched a nice buck take that same draw u to the back of some standing corn that had been stripped and left in the field.I grabbed my bow and told dad to get me up to the field, the wind was good and I was gonna try to sneak down the corn rows and wait for the deer to come in.

We drove down there and found two deer already feeding at the far end of the field, no way to get in with them there. Then two does came flying out the end of the corn and ran back towards the middle of the section.A huge bodied deer came out and started chasing one of the does remaining in the field, he ran her back over the hill but got I dads binocs on him for a second, then he was outta sight. He was a huge deer and had the rack to match, he looked like a small elk chasing does out there.

I told dad to drie me partway back into the section and Id see if I could sneak into the stand. We got back there and the deer were already under the stand, they went over anothe hill and outta sight.Theres a big willow bottom down there and a little bit of corn they ran into. They werent really spooked yet, they see vehichles back there every day and they were chasing each other again as soon as they were outta sight.

So we were running outta light and had about an hour left, to late to go anywhere else and this is the best buck Ive seen all year so we came up with a new plan, I snuck into the stand while dad went back around the section and came in on the end of the corn.He was gonna try heading th deer back towards meI get up in the tree, see dad go into the corn, and sit and wait.Awhile later I see the buck stanbding out in the willow bottom and dad comes outof the corn way past him.I figure the deer circled behind him so I climb down to tell him where the deers at, I look back over before coming down and the bucks not there, its wide open out past the willows so I assume he laid down.

Turns out dads shot him already. He came out the other end of the corn just as dad came around the side of it.Dad heard him coming, and got ducked into another corn row, he came out, stopped 10 yrds from him but offered no shot, he walked away and stopped at about 25 yrds giving him a quartering away shot.Dad released the buck stepped forward and turned a little at the same time and he caught him to far back with the arrow angling forward through the guts frown.gifIt all happened pretty fast.He was going back out this morning to see if he could find him, The deers got about 18 inches of arrow busted off inside him and walking out I think I seen him walking slowly up towards a grove on the other side of the field.Unfoutanately we couldnt find any blood at the point where he shot him or anywhere in between there and the beanfield. crazy.gifThe broken off arrow however was covered with blood, but for a gut shot didnt have any stomache matter on it confused.gifwell, im off to join the search now, wish us luck

Re: Oh no

This story has an unusual ending anyway. The grove the buck went into last night was right across the road from dads. This morning he got up and went to get in his truck right after daylight to start looking for the buck.He started the truck and went back to the house to get something, and when he came back out there was a deer right behind his house cutting through his backyard. He got the binocs on it and sure enough, it was the same buck he shot last night. He watched the buck wander around out behind his house for 1 1/2 hrs this morning and it appeared fine other than a little stiff. There was no way to get close enough to it for another shot with a bow but the deer was running, jumped several fences and was chasing does.He left the deer there and went back to where he shot it, again he found no blood, checked the grove, no blood there either. The deer has a hole in it but apparently it isnt seriously hurt, even though its got a lotta arrow still inside it confused.gifBut for a change of pace the crippled buck came and found him this morning instead of him goin looking for it grin.gif

Heres my opinion, see what you all think?he said the deer stepped forward and turned right when he shot, the arrow caught it clear back in front the hind leg and snapped off almost immediately. It was quartering away to start with and turned a little more at the shot, is it possible he slid the arrow in right under the skin and didnt hit anything important? The arrow snapped off when the deer brought his leg forward apparently and the deer never even flinched when he shot him, just walked away like nothing was wrong. This coupled with the fact he apparently never bled much and was chasing does and jumpng fences this morning tells me somehow he totally missed anything vital on that deer, im just not sure how confused.gif
