If God agrees, then why did he give someone the idea and talent to do it?

Re: Need Some Honest Input...

Tattoos, yuck.

I can’t possibly give you a one word or even a one line answer on tattoos.

Most of the tattoos I saw on my friends in the Navy were because they had had too much to drink and the tattoo reminded them of an evening they would like to forget.

Most everyone I know that has had a tattoo for a long period of time, (15 years or more) wished they had never done it.

Most of the people I know with tattoos refer to the time they got it in the past tense. Example: “I thought it would look good or better than my natural skin.”

“It looked a lot better when it was fresh.”

“It has faded a lot but if you look real close you can tell it’s a ……”.

“I thought it would distract the attention from my fat.”

"It really looks a lot better in person than in the picture." (believe me, it don't)

One of my Navy buddies thought that since he had no identifying marks or moles that he would get a tattoo. He couldn’t decide what to get, and one night in a state of stupidity, he had his name “Mike” tattooed on his forearm. He is still explaining to people he meets, that he is not, and never has been gay.

One of my friends has a son with a 6” diameter tattoo on his right back shoulder. He says it is a monster buck, but it looks like some sort of Deerzilla, or Deerasaur.

No offense but….well forget that…. I know it will offend, but the deer on the arm of vtbowhunter looks like it was a gut shot deer due to the angle of the deer and the arrow. My daughter used to draw like that when she was 8. The back legs aren’t right and makes it look crippled.

MossySNPR had to explain what the red splotches were on his tattoo, and the significance of the tattoo in general, when he first showed us the pictures several months ago.

If you were to get a tattoo of a military emblem etc. it would stand the test of time, but why have a tattoo that you will have to always explain the meaning to someone? Or worse yet will have to explain to them what it is because it has taken another form?

Not long ago there was a thread here on Realtree, and everyone was showing pictures of their tattoos. I didn’t say anything then, but will say it now. I didn’t see but a couple of good tattoos. The rest looked unplanned, poorly executed, and not in the least bit artistic.

There you go….Part of my personal opinion on tattoos.

I guess my vote is No.

My apologies to vtbowhunter and MossySNPR for using their tattoos as examples. I figure if I apologize now it will save me time later.

For most people a tat is a personal expression of something they believe in, or love. Me personally, I could care less if someone doesn't like or understand my tat. It is for me!

WG...if it is something you want. I say go for it. Be sure you are comfortable with the person doing it. Check out some of his other work if possible. It is a form of art, and the quality level definately differs from shop to shop. Be sure to post a pic if it is in a spot you can post it on here! grin.gif

True Popgun, when people see this tattoo I generally have to explain with the red splotches are. They can normally identify them as some sort of tracks but have no idea what the red is, they usually think the red splotches are another type of track.

I didn't mind getting it two years ago, I will never get sick of it or regret it. I can't see how people regret their tattoos, maybe because they have a doubt going into them and that doubt festures over years. If this is so, NOBODY SHOULD GET ONE.

However, since this is a hunting site, I would expect people to know what the tattoo is, what the tracks are and what the red splotches are.

The tattoo I have is obviously because I love deer hunting. I didn't get it on my forearm to be cool, I got it there because I want it where I can see it and I'm Identifying my own personal self as a hunter.

It means alot to me, ancient hunters used to tattoo themselves as well as communicate with drawings of "the hunt" on anything they could. This is a spiritual and personal tattoo, which is why I waited to see if it was still a good idea-TO ME. I posted the picture because WG is thinking of it, so I showed mine and helped with input.

Re: Need Some Honest Input...

I say if that's what you want then go ahead. I also think the pic you have in mind is pretty cool, I myself wouldn't get a duck feather, but, to each his....or in this case, her own. I used to not like tattoos, now I have one, my fiance has two, a butterfly and a dolphin on her ankle.

As far as the tattoo on the lower back thing. I guess it all depends on the image you want to project. Lets just say that in some circles, a tattoo on the small of a womans back is considered a "tramp stamp" and basically suggests to the viewer that you are easy. me personally, I think it looks pretty cool.

Just think it through, as far as me, I don't yet regret the tattoo I got 3 years ago, and I am sure I never will.

Re: Need Some Honest Input...

My wife has 3, she has gotten 2 of those since we have been together, I would like her to get one more. She has a rose/vine combination on her lower back, or as sluggo called it, a "tramp stamp", thanks sluggo. But anyways, it's your body, do what YOU want. Personally I like women with tats on their lower back.

Dumb idea.period

You need to think this over real hard...thye are forever for the most part. Classy ones in the right spot can be hot...but then you can cross the line also. For as far as the sarcastic, just plain mean comments, I'm curious how many of them smoke, drink to excess or use drugs? No one (excluding me) is perfect. Ideas from some and desire to get tattoos is a personal decision as is the decision for some of you to smoke, drink, use drugs and chew tobacco. I hope that you make your own decision based on common sense, not on a few of the negative comments that should have been left in the fingetips. grin.gif
