First off....you can do a bedding job and float the barrel yourself...me personally would take it to a gunsmith.

The idea behind bedding and floating the barrel is...1. to give the action a solid seat inside the stock, the action will have more contact points with the stock opposed to a factory gun. 2. The main advantage to floating the barrel is so that the barrel doesn't rub anywhere inside the stock. I had a gun that after a few shots and the barrel heated up...it would start shooting a little high and right...let it cool and shoot again it would be dead on the first shot...then climb again.

I personally only have a few guns bedded and floated and would like to do it to all my bolt action guns. Is it needed? Not on most factory "deer" guns...but it will help tighten up your groups.
