How to take a field picture of your deer???

After reading superguides thread on "How to Take A Field Picture-Don't Move This Please ", I have come to the conclusion that I need to take more care in my pictures. I have been trying harder to take more tasteful game pictures. Since I didn't have my camera in the field (my fault...won't happen again...sorry....me bad.) I had to settle for the front yard in front of some tasteful bushes. (sorry about the road in the background ..me bad...won't happen again)

My buddy Ken got this deer and I always like to get some pictures, just for the memories. smile.gif

I cleaned off the deer, re-adjusted his hair a bit, and tucked in the tongue. (I'll have to remember the thumbs behind the ears trick for next time).

It wasn't hard at all to tuck in the tongue on the deer and get it to stay put, but trying to get Ken's tongue to stay in was a whole other battle. crazy.gif

Anyway, my question is this... Should I cut it off or use super-glue next time??? grin.giftongue.gif

For me, i could care less what the pic looks like, i could be half way through skinning the deer and take a pic, but to me its not what the pic looks like, its the memory that was made, as long as you have a pic to remember it by, thats all ya need..just my imput.

I honestly think too much is being made of the whole "Tasteful Picture" issue. It's getting to the point that soon folks that don't feel like messing with all the stuff that's been recommended will stop posting pics here and then we lose a lot of the fun here.

doc in my opinion I like the first pic better, its true and real, not fake!!Iwould rather see a true field pic blood or not and hole or not than one fake or one that is all set up to get a "perfect" supposid pic!drag the deer to find a perfect background better lightign ect, crap, I want a pic the way my deer fell and with the blood and hole were it is, like it or not no biggie with me!!I also think this whole arguement is gettign a bit out of hand, like treestand said alot will not be postign pics becosue they think they will get razzed, me included with alot of mine!!

I think that if you spend 40 days a year hunting (some more, some less) and figure the amount of time that you put into it, (practicing, scouting, actual hunting), then you will find that taking at the very minimum 5 minutes to prepare a quality picture is a great investment of your time. Afterall, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Buckee, I like the fact that you put the effort into taking a good photo. You're almost there. Practice, and a digital camera help a lot.

I also agree....if i smoke some huge buck and want a nice proffesional looking picture to hang on my wall next to the mount...then yeah i'd clean it up a little.....but if i harvest a doe or small buck...or just want to take pictures for the scrapbook or to show my buddies and to post on here....i'm not gunna go the extra mile to clean it up for that

James- How did you get that deer's head to stay up in the 3rd pic?!?!?!?! crazy.gif

Forum member "Griz" took this picture of me last year.

I used the timer on my camera to get this picture by myself earlier in the year....

I took this picture of forum member "RyanH" this year.

Used my camera timer just last week to get this picture. Used a little tripod I got from Wal-Mart for $5. Took the picture where he fell, right next to some hay bales. Notice there's blood on the ground....there has been blood around every deer I've shot, odd as it may seem.....

ANY picture is nice:

.....But field photos are AWESOME!! This picture has so many memories. Shot it with my buddy, Shane, on the other side of the field in the background. First turkey. Used the timer again on this one. A little off-center, but nothing a little "crop" can't fix......I would probably leave it like it is though.....

Re: How to take a field picture of your deer???

Like I said Bill, a picture is worth a thousand words. And to be quite honest, I dont' try to take good pictures because I'm afraid of offending someone by having a little blood in the picture. I do it because I like to do it, and because I think it's the right thing to do.

Oh, and about that third picture down: don't be afraid to experiment with photoshop if you have a little extra freetime.

Nice contrast there Ryan, on the turkey pic at home and the turkey pic in the field.

That's it right there in a nut-shell isn't it. It's not about impressing others, it's about pleasing ourselves.

Great pics James and guys. grin.gif

Kind of have to agree with Bret here. When I get a field pic, I will push the tongue back in and that is about it, I am not going to try to hide a hole or do a lot of cleanup. It is natural and kind of interesting to see the holes to see where the deer was hit.
