superguide
Re: .30-378 wby mag The shells cost a fortune and make big holes is all I can say. There's not many elephants left running wild in Manitoba is there lol.
AJ
Re: .30-378 wby mag I would not recommend it. Its extremely over rated. Unless you have the skill and area to shoot over 400 yards, its no better than a 300 Win Mag. The gun has stout recoil and fierce muzzleblast. The cost of ammo is nuts also. superguide
Re: .30-378 wby mag I guided some guys from Manhattan that shot them-one guy shot a 150 plus buck in the neck with it and almost shot the head right off the body-a little overkill unless your hunting something that might hunt you. snapper
Re: .30-378 wby mag Yeah...check out the price of bullets before you buy. At or around $80 a box (of 20) bullets...it could get pretty pricey to shoot!
Trigger
Re: .30-378 wby mag Ic IC looks like i'll be staying away from that gun. pric eof ammo is probally why the guy is selling it.
Guest lilcrackshot
Re: .30-378 wby mag What are you going to be hunting? If you are going to be hunting grizzly and the like it would be a great gun. But for less than that the 300 win mag would be best.
Shaun_300
Re: .30-378 wby mag I'd stick to the .300 Win Mag out of those two calibers. Mainly because of ammo prices, but it all depends what you're hunting. If you're going to be hunting moose, the .300 Win Mag is more than enough power. I used to use the .300 Win Mag for deer, now I use the new .300 WSM cartridge. It has basically the same ballistics as the win mag but a bit more, approximately 50fps and ft.lbs more with the factory Winchester ammo. The main thing I notice between the two is the recoil. My win mag is in a Remington 700, and my WSM is in a Browning BLR, even with the Browning being the lighter rifle, it kicks WAY less than the 700 chambered in .300 Win Mag. If you want a bit more power, look into the .300 Ultra Mag or the .300 Weatherby Mag.
