AdvantageTimberLou
Well its a start, maybe a new coach can get this team straightened out. I like the decision now instead of after the season. Let the new coach work with what he's got and build on it on the off season. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5117306 Maybe the Lions can be in the Super Bowl next year, this year their stadium might be hosting it but if their going to be there they will be buying a ticket to watch it! IowaDeerHunter
Re: Lions fire Mooch! Just seen that on ESPN. They def. needed something new. Kinda like the Vikings 4 wins in a row with Johnson, they neded Culpepper out of there. IMO
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Lions fire Mooch! Bad move IMO....get rid of matt millen first....bring in a pres that knows what they are doing....they need to draft better....was a bad move drafting 3 straight WR's with your first pick 3 years in a row...they need an offensive line and a QB...they just got rid of the best coach they have had since (dare i say) wayne fontes (sp)....espn news said it right...they were one play away from the playoffs the season before matt millen was hired...since he was hired in 2001....since then they have the worst record in the league....then they give they guy a 5 year extention?? [/ QUOTE ] I agree 100%---a team that is bad and has been bad for a long time--even when they had one of the best running backs in NFL history. Everyone wants to blame a coach for a bad team when in fact it's had more to do with upper management and ownership. The lions are an example and another good example is the cardinals---doesn't matter who coaches the cardinals--they are always going to stink! todd

[/ QUOTE ] Man, that's exactly what I was thinking. Sherman needs to go. [/ QUOTE ] What?! I usually agree with you on Wisconsin sports Craig, but I don't agree with that one. Sherman isn't the problem in Green Bay. When Sherman first got there, GB was doing very, very well. They did up until last year also. GB's defense has been the problem the last two or three years. GB's "secondary" sucks. Period. If there were any talent on that defense except for the d-line and Barnett, I think GB would be there with Chicago going for a 4th straight division title. I don't think Sherman is the problem.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Lions fire Mooch! I have to agree with the guys who say Millen should go and that might happen by the end of the season. He has no experience in the position he got, he's got a losing record to show but he stays in that position because William Clay Ford, the owner of the Lions, likes him. William Clay Ford Jr. would like to see him go but when Dad owns the team he makes the call. However I see Millen leaving if they lose the remaining games. The team needs help, it does every year. Sad when expansion teams can go to the Super Bowl and win it and an established team can't make the play offs!

He had all of Holmgrens talent when he got there, and he has not done the job of replacing the talent correctly as they have retired or left from trades. Sherman needs to go. If you want to see Favre one more year, you better hope GB keeps Sherman.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Lions fire Mooch! i don't think sherman or favre will be back next year...the whole team is terrible right now...the only person they have on offfense is favre and he has no one to throw to...they have absolutly no running game and the defense is below average...feel kind of bad for favre....great QB shouldn't have his career ending this way
Guest Finn
Re: Lions fire Mooch! Sherman doesn't command the respect needed. All the penalties this year are horrible. The generally comes from a lack of discipline and that starts with Sherman. He also hasn't gotten any players to replace those we've lost. That stuff begins with the head coach and I really feel he's not got the right stuff. Barnett is probably the most overrated linebacker I've ever seen. Sure, he's picked up a couple fumbles, but you certainly can't count on him to make a play when we need it. Look at the tackles he missed for losses in the last game. They talk him up like he's Ray Lewis or Urhlacher. Of course, I could be wrong....as I often am
