You are correct--more than likely the soil under your pines will be VERY acidic. I have never done a controlled burn so I can't give you much help but like Born2hunt stated everything I have read is that after a controlled burn you natural forage will be like a food plot. Instead of planting anything I bet if you just fertilized the soil after the burn you will get some highly preferred nutritious natural forage that the deer will love.

Due to your acidic soil you should have a soil test done to find out how much lime to apply.This is more important than fertilizer in this situation. Always be carefull with lime because if applied too heavy it can actually burn your new growth.Shoot for a ph around 6.5-7.0 for best results and fertilize as needed.
