Better every day...

I am only checking email about once a week, so don't get upset if I don't answer your emails immediately. Sandy checks it for me in between. I am doing pretty well. I have almost none of the pain I had before the surgery. I have some new pains the doctors are attributing to the procedure and they feel confident it will go away. I was able to walk about 200 feet yesterday without the use of the walker, cane or anything except for my braces.

I am still weak and spend most of my time in the bed. I have a therapist come to my house 3 days a week. My left leg is weaker than my right leg. We do not know if it is a result of the surgery or nerve damage from having to wait so long for the operations. I still have issues with my left arm but we are waiting to see if it is like my left leg. I go back to the doctor on the 16th and hope to hear everything is healing as forecasted. It is such a joy to be able to walk to the bathroom without having to use the cane I had used for over a year. At this point, would I have this procedure again knowing what I know now? You bet! Is this procedure for everyone and does everyone have the same results? Unfortunately, No.

I am still recovering from the incisions in my neck, back and stomach. Don't worry, I took some pictures for you..LOL...All the sutures were under the skin and the doctors put a surgical "super glue" on my skin so I would not have to go back to Nashville too soon to remove them.

I still have good days and bad days. Most of the bad days are from the surgical pain I still have and "phantom" pain. I still have no feeling in the toes of my right foot or the side of the calf of my right leg, but it does not hamper my ability to function. I have "pressure" pain when I stand still for over a minute but it does not cause pain when I walk. Just when I stand still..go figure...pain to shave..hehe

All in All I am doing very well. The Therapist says I am doing well gaining my strength except for my left leg...I just grit my teeth and trudge ahead...

Re: Better every day...

Thats great news Norm. I know life was miserable for a while and its great to hear that you're on the downhill slope! Im sure you would trade the minor numbness over the pain any day! Fear not, the prayers haven't stopped and they wont until you're 100%.

Get back on your feet Buddy, there is still an open invitation for fishing or hunting around your old neck of Pryor, Oklahoma!
