AJ
You will be hard pressed to beat that price by reloading. If you buy your components in bulk (ton of shot, 16-25 pounds of powder, case of wads (5000), primers by the sleeve (5000)) you could get below that but when you add in your time and the cost of the press, it would take many years to recoup the investment. My loads cost me about 9.1¢ per shot. Here is a reloading cost calculator. It will take into account the price of the press and how long it will take to break even. One of the benefits of reloading is the ability to create ammo that fits your needs. You can make ammo that is faster or slower, has less recoil, patterns better, or has the shot size and amount you desire. You are not stuck comprimizing with whats available or on sale. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Thoughts on reloading... Hookset------You have to do ALOT of shooting to make it pay. At $2.38 a box you are just about what it costs to reload for components---that's not adding in the cost of the reloader & YOUR time to reload. With that said----those $2.38 Federals probably have the softest shot. And it will probably cost you a bird or 2. A trap load---Win AA, Rem STS or Fed Gold Medal have the best shot & will give you a better pattern but they are about twice the cost also. If it was me----I'd stick with the $2.38 Federal. double_drop
Re: Thoughts on reloading... My buddy and I reload all summer long. We shoot a trap league and a sporting clays league. It is well worth it in the end. You can make the loads the way you want them.
doubleA
Re: Thoughts on reloading... You could load a better quaility shell for the same price, but not in that Federal hull. You will have to go with a AA, STS or Gold Medal hull to be able to get multible reloads . In my area yopu can buy either Winchester AA's or Remington STS's for $38.00 a flat (250 rnds)at Wallyworld. You can take and sell the empty hulls to a reloader at $.04 each and with that the total cost of a box of AA's or STS's wind up costing you only $2.80 a box and they are some of the best shells on the market....well the Remington's are anyways Life is good, Give God the Glory....doubleA
