tallone
I bought a summit bushmaster recently and I need to ask you guys a question, does all the summit stands make noise like this? As I climb the cable moves inside the locking part of the stand and makes a metalic noise as it hits. I have two old man grand visions and they are way more quieter while climbing and safer. Safer I mean the first time I climbed with it when I got to the top I let go of the top part of the stand and it fell to my feet, you really have to make sure it gets a good bite before you let go! I'm not bashing Summit but the old man are alot safer and quieter stands in my opinion. The summits once you get seated, are very comforable and don't move which is better than the old man just wondering if anybody else has this problem? bowhtr1
Re: Summit owners I have both stands. The ol-man is the most quiet stand out there. It also bites good on the tree. The summit stands do make more noise but are more comfortable. You can climb fairly quiet with the summit but it takes some effort to do so. They will never be as quiet as the ol-man. I have not had any problems with either stand while climbing. They both are so much better than any others out there. I feel safe climbing with both of them. AJ
Re: Summit owners I agree that the Summit is not the most stable setup that is offered. My 10 year old Loggy Bayou is much sturdier and safer than the Summit once you are up there. It is quieter than my Loggy though. And it is a lot more comfortable than the Loggy. tedicast
Re: Summit owners I ratchet strap the upper part of my Summit BroadHead Backpacker to the tree when I get it set up where I want it. Only takes a few seconds, and the piece of mind is definately worth it.
Adjam5
Re: Summit owners I also use that ratchet strap that summit gives to keep the stand together when carrying it. Summitt reccomends that you use it and like Tedicast said...the piece of mind is worth it.
Swamphunter
Re: Summit owners To get a better bite into the tree, according to the video that they supplied, you can file the teeth of the frame a bit sharper for better digging in ability. wtnhunt
Re: Summit owners Thought my summit was pretty quiet really. Have not had any troubles with the stand slipping once I was where I wanted to be, however had a few times when I first got the stand that I had to work to get it to bite good when trying to position the top and bottom at a comfortable distance apart. JimT
Re: Summit owners My X4 is very quiet. I have had the top half fall though, and learned to sinch it tight then put the strap on asap.
LifeNRA
Re: Summit owners [ QUOTE ] I ratchet strap the upper part of my Summit BroadHead Backpacker to the tree when I get it set up where I want it. Only takes a few seconds, and the piece of mind is definately worth it. [/ QUOTE ] I also use a rachet strap to lock the top section onto the tree. It does not move at all! Then again, this is why I bought the Goliath X5, no moving parts! This stand is VERY QUIET! [ QUOTE ] I also use that ratchet strap that summit gives to keep the stand together when carrying it. Summitt reccomends that you use it and like Tedicast said...the piece of mind is worth it. [/ QUOTE ] That is just a pull strap that comes with your stand, not the rachet strap as mentioned above. This is a rachet strap, see below. You can get them at most stores that sell hunting products, or here. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...ch-results1.jsp
Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: Summit owners Yeah, i've been think how to quiet that cable! Haven't thought much, only when i use it, which isn't very much. lol Ground hunt a lot. YES, file the teeth down!!! You get a nice hard tree, some moisture/rain/ice...you WILL slide. I've had it happen couple times. Scares the crap out of ya, until it grabs!
bowhtr1
Re: Summit owners I forgot, I did file my blades down on both my summit stands. They bite good.
Tominator
Re: Summit owners My API has sharper teeth than my Summit, and thus the API is more secure once you're sitting. One of these days I think I'll sharpen my Summit a bit.

Yes, any climber will make "some noise" when climbing a tree. As far as sturdiness goes, it's like a rock in the tree!! BEST climber I owned!! bowhtr1
Re: Summit owners [ QUOTE ] Yes, any climber will make "some noise" when climbing a tree. [/ QUOTE ] Not an Ol-man stand. The only noise it makes is the bark on the tree. The stand does not make any noise at all.
tallone
Re: Summit owners I'm going to try the filing thing, sounds like a good idea, thanks. The teeth are really rounded and making them sharper should do the trick.
