lil hunter
You can shoot rifled slugs with a smoothbore slug barrel. They generally aren't as accurate at sabots could be, but they are as good as anything out to 50-75 yards. You could also use that as a turkey barrel. johnf
Re: Mossberg I've got to think I'd feel a little jipped buying a combo with a "slug" barrel that wasn't riffled.

AJ
Re: Mossberg [ QUOTE ] I am yet to see any manufacturer offer a regular barrel and slug barrel combo in which the slug barrel that was included was rifled. [/ QUOTE ] I suggest you do not look at Mossberg or Remington then. Mossberg does offer combo packages with a rifled barrel for the 500 and 835. . Remington offers a combo with rifled or smooth slug barrel. As a matter of fact, so does Winchester. They are out there. Your local dealer may not stock them, but they are regular items. Until the late 80's or early 90's there were no rifled slug barrels. When they started to make rifled barrels for sabots, not all states allowed the use of fully rifled barrels as it was considered a rifle, not a shotgun. Today, I think all states allow the use of rifled bores in shotguns though. Some shooters still like to use the foster type slugs as they are a lot cheaper than sabots. If you hunt thick woods and rarely get a shot over 50 yards, why spend the extra money on a rifled bore and sabots when a smoothbore with rifled slugs will work perfectly fine? No biggie either way, I bought my rifled barrel separately for my

[/ QUOTE ] My very first gun that my mom and dad bought for me about seven years ago is a Mossberg 500 combo. 26" smoothbore barrel and a 24" rifled barrel with a scope mount on it.
