Tom2008
PSE bows are great! I own one and wouldn't go with anything else! I would say go to the bow shop and have them help you. Its really what you prefer. There are many different kinds of bows out there and atleast one that will be most comfortable for you.
Guest TBryan
Re: best bow for a newbie Like montanacur i also shoot the Saber and couldnt be happier. The best thing to do is go to a proshop and have them help you out. You should be able to shoot several different bows to see which is best for you. BowJoe
Re: best bow for a newbie I would say go with a used mathew's outback. The general price is around $500. If you get a dozen GT Pro Hunters from Eders, there's another $90 with shipping. The other alternative is to save a little and buy just a half dozen from the pro shop, but make sure you get some GT's or at least some carbons with a straightness factor as close to +/- .001. An Alpine soft loc quiver for $40 with shipping. A case for $30. $40 for the cobra venom sight plus one more pin. A Cobra 360 release for $30. Wasp Jak Hammers for $30/ 3 pack. If you are willing to spend maybe $10 dollars over budget then a Quik Tune 2000 drop away rest for $50. I believe all of these prices are pretty accurate and this is a very good set-up. Depending on your arrow decision you may adjust this number by $45 or so. You may be able to get a good discount shopping both the internet and your local shop. Some may want to get rid of last years stock and offer huge discounts. Wal-Mart is a good place to go for this as well. They carry Cobra items and that where I have bought both the release and sight. Just make sure your sight is metal and not plastic. Try to get your pro shop to throw some field points and some free range time. If you need a few tips then surely they would help you as much as needed. I would ask your friends when things for archery go on sale in your area. Clearance sales happen at different times in each state. Here in IL things go on sale after the second shotgun season. In MO things go on sale before archery season is a month old. You know what friends to trust and just follow your gut. I am pretty adament about the Mathew's Outback. It's a really good bow and the compact size would definately help with hauling it up and down the ridges and mountains in MT. I could list reasons for my suggestions but that could take forever. Ask around for other oppinions and I think ingeneral you will get the same response. Good luck and I hope I helped you.
double_drop
Re: best bow for a newbie I have always used bows that don't cost over 500 for just the bow. The bow i am using now is a jennings split limb air master 2000. Works very well. Have killed 8 deer with it now and got the bow sights quiver and a half dozen beaman 380-16's carbon arrows for 400 bucks. The bow is quieter than my buddies mathews as well. MUDRUNNER
Re: best bow for a newbie I would check out a Bowtech Tomkat. It's a short, manueverable bow with decent speed and a forgiving 8 5/8 brace height. PSE makes some good bows.I think the Nova is a good beginners bow.My cousin has an AR34,which is made by PSE and loves it.
dg
Re: best bow for a newbie I wouldn't key in on a specific brand. Most bows are pretty good theses days. But in my opinion, find the archery shop that knows how to determine your proper draw length with release (if used). That'll be your most important part of the setup. bbarnhart20
Re: best bow for a newbie I'd say try a few different brands and find the one that's most comfortable for you price, performance, and feel. Every bow on the market can serve the same purpose, though some are faster, more powerful, and more forgiving. To start out I wouldn't worry much about speed, I'd try to concentrate on a more forgiving bow that is comfortable for you and fits your price range. After a few years, you could always upgrade to a faster more powerful bow.

[/ QUOTE ] Great advice right there.. Most bows these days are excellent, most hunters have a personal preference. I believe you need to go out and shoot as many bows as you can and target on the ones that fits you best. The best bows is what fits you the best. JimT
Re: best bow for a newbie You need to shop around and get a bow that you shoot well. Spend all of that $800.00 and do it right the first time.
VtBowhunter
Re: best bow for a newbie I shoot a Hoyt vtec and absolutely love it. If your friends shoot Hoyts then you should shoot one of theirs if you can. Since you've heard bad things about PSE, then I would stay away from that kind of bow for now. Those things will always be in the back of your mind and you'll never be truely happy with the set-up. I strongly recommend the Hoyts, but in the end it's entirely up to you and what you feel comfortable with.
