SHOT MY FIRST DEER !!!

Today we went out about at 6:00 and I went up above my dad on and sat up onto the ridge. I climbed into a brush pile which was surrounded by thicketts. I was using " The Can " call and I would call every 15 minutes or so..I kept hearing some sounds coming from behind me but I was sure if it wasn't my dad below me so I called him on the radio...Sure enough it was a few does. I saw to fawns and I let them walk by. I knew that if they were around the mother would be too. Well I saw a decent size doe and I put my scope on her. I pulled the trigger but the excitement got the best of me...I threw my shot and I hit its lower stomach...It was so close to a miss it tore its skin and it - Insides - were hanging out... ~ !! It kept walking !!! ~ I couldn't believe it so I shot again and it was a better placed shot which dropped it...Just to find out the mother of the doe I had shot was apparently to the side of me which my father could only see. He didn't want to risk the chance of shooting me so he had to let her pass...Well I dont have any pics yet I hope to have some soon... ( Yes, I was dressed fully in Realtree Outdoors Clothing...Including the Team RealTree Hat. )

Re: SHOT MY FIRST DEER !!!

Congratulations on your first deer. That is always an exciting moment for us all.

So sorry to hear about the gut shot, but hey...that happens to all of us at one time or other. It just makes you concentrate more next time.

Clean her up good, hose and vinegar bath, before skinning, cut off any contaminated meat, like the belly flaps, etc, and she'll be just fine.

Way to go on your first cool.gifsmile.gif
