waterfowler_gal
I was curious what state's is it legal to bait for deer? And if it is legal to bait for deer do you do it? I don't want to start any problems but I am just curious how it is in different states.... It is illegal to bait for deer in Minnesota however rifle opener weekend a LOT of people got busted by the DNR. It seem's to be an ongoing epidemic in our state. If you don't play by the rules-stay home!!
MossySNPR
Re: Baiting Here in Ontario Canada it is legal. We do it every year and our deer count has raised like 80-90%. We use purely apples, massive crates of them. We go up to the cottage every week and replenish the stands(about 13 stands or watches) amount of apples. In the rut, this attracts only does. We shoot the bucks that simply follow the does scent trails to the apple pile. Although we have shot a few bucks in mid-November that were JUST about to take a bite... Tominator
Re: Baiting Legal in Ohio. Nope, I've never hunted over a bait pile per se. I've planted small foodplots however and have hunted near them, and I'm considering piling some corn out in my field and setting my blind close, just so I can take my son out and see what happens. texastrophies
Re: Baiting Legal in Texas. Yes I do. You will seldom see a muture buck at a feeder, during daylight hours, but you will see numerous young bucks and does. The "and does" part is the key. Where they are during the rut, tends to help with catching one of the big boys. A couple of others positive that I have noticed about feeding/baiting the deer is, it is a great opportunity to study, watch and learn their habits, a good opportunity to learn to judge age of the deer and antler size. And for the last couple of years, I have learned that a feeder with deer around it helps tremendously in keeping a youngster from getting bored with just setting there and not seeing anything. unioncountyslayer
Re: Baiting In NC it is legal, and I do bait, mostly with Shelled corn. In SC where I also hunt I believe it is only legal in Chesterfield Co., the county I hunt. Lucky for Me!

superguide
Re: Baiting It's legal here in Sask.-Ty and I pack bait out all fall and never hunt over it-we usually let Ty's friends from town hunt over them as they don't get much hunting time. As for it being ethical in my opinion a foodplot is just a little larger size bait-also it is way superior to the cruise the fields in your halfton kind of hunting most practice up here. Chrud
Re: Baiting It's partially legal in Wisconsin. Some areas it is, some areas it isn't. Plus, there are limits to how much bait you can have. I do bait occassionally during the late bow season. I am this year, I'd like another doe. I don't during the early bow season or gun season though.
wtnhunt
Re: Baiting Hunting food plots and food sources are legal here in Tennessee, but hunting over a bait pile is not legal. Any bait must be removed from the area intended to hunt 10 days prior to hunting that area.
Ravin R10 man
Re: Baiting Yes Wis. is legal as metioned before above with exceptions 2 Gal limit on bait. I did leave standing corn in several fields this year again..that really held the deer on my farm....the "T" zone hunt put the big bucks nocturnel along with the gun season....Im hoping that one will show in late bow ...it would be cool if shaun could be there to see it happen
Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: Baiting It legal in Michigan, except for one part. But they have limit on how much bait in one pile at a time.

SaskMan
Re: Baiting Haven't in a few years but it is legal here and I will again. If you drop a 1/2 acre of any sort of food plot in the middle of nowhere, filled with protein rich foods, don't knock someone who hunts over a bait pile, that'll make you a hypocrite! BAMABUCKS
Re: Baiting Not legal in Alabama...although (sad to say) a lot of folks still pile the corn up. I don't have a problem with baiting...would do it myself if it was legal...but I do have a problem with the law breakers.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Baiting [ QUOTE ] I can understand using corn or piled food for deer during the stress period up north but their is no need for it in the south. [/ QUOTE ] Whoa doe! (ha, I amused myself with that one ) I guess you've never heard of a drought? Try going 3 or 4 years without rain and see what happens to the deer herd. Supplemental feeding is about our only recourse to prevent an even more massive die off.
Guest deadeye270
Re: Baiting not legal in my area of SC. but I have no problem with it.... mainly because I just like to see deer. And most of the time you will not shoot a mature buck coming to a feeder.

If there is no food because it never rains anymore we have to throw something for them. We cant plant food plots because it doesnt rain enough and theres no way to water them enough. On my lease we feed year round plus protien during spring and summer.
