Just picked up a Burris 2-7X w/ballistic plex today. Seems like a winner.

Either will do fine. You just have to decide. It isn't likely you'll ever use much magnification over 5 while actually hunting. It is nice however to have the extra when bench shooting. I'll eventually have a 3-12 on my .223 XP100 when it gets completed.

I like the 3-12x scopes on my varmint chambered handguns. I also install them for load development to allow me to aim as accurately as possible on the bench. Like 'gunnr said, its hard to use high mag while deer hunting. I know it is for me. I gues sif you were hunting fields from a blind or treestand with a gun rest it would be ok.

The 2-7x will serve you very well for hunting big game. The B-Plex will not be much of an advantage out to 150 yards with a 7-08. It would be cool for the 200-300 yard shots on varmints or targets though.

The higher mag is key to sighting in IMHO but is it worth the extra $50? I feel it is.

As for hunting I have 2 nice box stands that over look varied ranges in fields, one of which has a 360* view and the shortess shot is 60 yards with, the longest being over 350.

But I hunt tree stands in the woods too with 100 yard shooting lanes cut. Railing and pads included.

I have my share of "good rests" to hunt from.

I do plan to get a pair of good shooting sticks for those times I am not in either type of stand.
