Re: Turkey gun ?????????

Either one of them will work fine, and are decent guns.

Pick the one you are most comfortable with as far a shooting and aiming goes.

My own Turkey gun is a Browning BPS Stalker with a 24 inch barrel.

But I own a Mossberg and a couple Remingtons, and none of them have given me any serious porblems.

Re: Turkey gun ?????????

I used my brother's 835 this spring. For ammo, I used Federal Premium Mag Shok, 3” #5 shells. I just used whatever turkey choke came with it, XX-Full I believe, but I could be wrong. The pattern was really good, but could have been better at longer ranges. When I get around to getting a 935 for turkey, I'm going to experiment with different chokes and shells to see what patterns best.

Re: Turkey gun ?????????

One thing to remember about that 835 is, it's somewhat of a light weight gun. And when shooting those 3 1/2" Howitzer rounds, it is one heck of a handful in the recoil department. I use to own one of the first ones they made way back when in the Realtree brownleaf camo. At the pattern range is where the real facts on recoil came to life with that gun. After only 9 shots, I was done!!! Talk about BRUTAL recoil!! I have since went with a Winchester 1300 with the 3" chamber, which is more than enough for turkeys.

Re: Turkey gun ?????????

If you like the 870 i would go with the express magnum. It is alot quieter in the field. Buddy had an 835 and the forearm rattled as bad as my benelli nova did. We both said the heck with both of them and now we each own a xtrema semi auto by beretta for out 3 1/2 inch guns. Will never go to anything else.

Re: Turkey gun ?????????

I like both models and use a 835 for my turkey hunting. I have no problems with the recoil shooting the 3 1/2 inchers. But that is me. However because a model can shoot them it does not mean you have to.

The rest of my family have the 870's and they also perform pretty well. I plan on using my sons 20 gauge 870 in the future for some turkey hunting.

But I also believe that everybody's choice is the right one also. It all comes back to what makes you happy and gives you confidence. wink.gif

If anybody wants me to test out their choice of shotgun for turkey hunting....I can travel grin.gif

I am looking to buy a new gun for turkey hunting.I am a huge Remington 870 fan.......

Seems like you answered your own question before you finished asking it!! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Between the 870 Super and the 835 Ulti, I don't even see a question of a choice. confused.gif I'd buy the 870 and never look back. wink.gif

I even think Dick's has the 870 Super for around $219 (after rebate) right now.

I shot a 20ga NEF with turkey loads and found it unpleasant. My brother has an NEF 10ga that I will eventually try. Have to at least once just to see.

Me, I'd get the 870, but I'm cheap.

Re: Turkey gun ?????????

For me I use to hunt turks with the 835 but it is too clunky gun for myself carrying around hunting...and I thought it kicked like a moose.. I now have a Browning Gold Hunter NWTF turkey edition and love it... shorter barrel, great pattern with the turkey choke, doesn't kick as bad and worth the investment... just my opinion though.

Re: Turkey gun ?????????

I bought the 835 last year and have taken 3 birds with it. It will flat fold 'em up like a cheap umbrella at 50 yrds. YES it does have a serious recoil, but when your actually shooing at a turkey it's not as noticable. the turkey gets the worse end of the bargain, believe me....speaking of bargain...you can't beat it at 299 dollars. the fiber optic sights are incredible too.
