AJ
No, its close enough that one would not be better than the other. Out to 300 yards, it really does not matter. Check out the Cartridge Comparison Thread. If you don't believe my data you can always look at Remington's data which is saying the same thing. VTbowman
Re: 7mm-08 I am in the process of getting that exact caliber in an Encore pistol. Looking at the ballistics it looks like the 7mm.08 is a better caliber in both KE and velocity. It is a flatter shooting round too based on the numbers. I have never shot either so my opinions are based solely on the ballistic charts...
Guest Rolngthun
Re: 7mm-08 I don't think you would go wrong either way. Both are good rounds. Comes down to personal preference as I see it. I would be happy with either, just happen to have the 7mm.
LETMGROW
Re: 7mm-08 I'm considering buying my wife a 7mm-08 for Christmas. Seems like short action. availability in lighter weight rifles and good ballistics are qualities she would like. Any one out there got an opinion on a real good choice for a smaller frame person to carry and shoot?

AJ
Re: 7mm-08 Yep, Remington Model 7, the H&R Handi Rifle, Tikka T3 Lite, etc.
LETMGROW
Re: 7mm-08 Thanks for the input guys. Actually I have been looking at the Remington 700 mountain rifle with detachable magazine. The DM sure makes unloading easier and I feel safer to unload.
AJ
Re: 7mm-08 [ QUOTE ] I know little of the 7mm-08 but why this over the .270. [/ QUOTE ] 1. Short action compact gun. 2. Less recoil. 3. What she wants.
LETMGROW
Re: 7mm-08 Good answer AJ This is exactly why I am considering this round. Also appears to shoot flatter than the .308. Maybe I'll use it once in a while too. No offense to .270 fans. This is also a great round.
Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Re: 7mm-08 I purchased my wife a new Model 7 about 3 months ago. Its the stainless synthetic model with 20 inch barrel and it really immpressed me. I loaded some 154 grain Interonds for it and got about ¾inch grouped the first time around. Her first high powered rifle and she was shooting it like it was her 22. Took her to the woods and about 2 hours later she had a exceptional 5x5 on the ground. For the first time I think she new why I love hunting. She was shaking and I dont really think she has been that excited in awhile. I think I will buy me another in the 700 for myself next season and my daughter will be old enough to legally carry a gun next year so I may have to get
AJ
Re: 7mm-08 I have a pair of Model 7 guns. One is .243 Win and the other is .308 Win. The .308 Win will definately go into dark timber with me on an elk hunt.

I've got 2 one in 243 the other in 25-06. They are light and very accurate. Not to mention you can get one for around $200. If she wants a rifle with low recoil I would also consider the 243. It doesn't have much noticable recoil even on a bench.
tped
Re: 7mm-08 I have a standard Rem. 700 stainless in 7mm-08 that is probably my favorite rife. I used the gun when I use to shot high powered silhouettes. The 7mm-08 was no doubt the standard cartridge for this game because you could load 140 grain bullets for shooting the 100m-385m targets and 168 grains for the rams at 500m. Gave you all the power necessary for knocking over 50 lb steel rams at 500m and the low recoil made it so you could shoot 40+ rounds at a time with pleasure. I have found it to be an equally awesome cartridge on whitetails also. Longest kill was 385 yards and dropped in its tracks with a 160 grain bullet. In a model seven - any woman would love it.
