AJ
Do not use loose Triple 7 with 150 gr loads! This is only done with pellets. I have shot 150 gr of loose in my Rem 700 ML and I had to hammer the bolt open. Its way too high of pressure. I am using 80 gr loads in my Encore handgun with a 235 gr saboted QT40. I am shooting Pyrodex in my BP rifles.
AJ
Re: 100 Grain Triple 7 vs 150 grain Ok then. The 50 gr T7 pellets = 50 gr Pyrodex pellets. The velocity should be the same. I shot 3 Pyrodex pellets with my Rem 700 ML. It was getting just over 2100 fps with the 235 gr QT40s. The 250 gr bullets should be similar. Not all sabots like the 150 gr charge. Unless you expect to be shooting over 150 yards, I would not bother with 150 gr loads. Its a lot of recoil and the deer are not any deader. double_drop
Re: 100 Grain Triple 7 vs 150 grain i shoot up to 175 yards with 100 grains of powder and my muzzloader still does excellent with that amount of powder. I use power belt aerotip bullets as well.
Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: 100 Grain Triple 7 vs 150 grain I heard that guys who are shooting 150 grains, they get a lot of eratic bullet patterning. I also heard that 120gr (pellets) Is a great load, if you want to use over 100 grains.
LETMGROW
Re: 100 Grain Triple 7 vs 150 grain I think I shoot better with the 100 gr. load because I am more comfortable knowing I'm not going to get knocked flat with the 150 gr. load. I've shot both. My .50 Pursuit shoots tighter groups with the 100 gr. charge. I'm confident to 150 yards with my gun with only a slight holdover past 100 yards. NEMOdeerhunter
Re: 100 Grain Triple 7 vs 150 grain Im new too muzzleloading too, Just got one last month. Mine is a CVA Wolf from Wal-Mart, Im shooting 245 gr power belt bullets with 130 gr of pyrodex pellets(not Triple 7) and I am amazed at how accurate it is. This is the only load I have tried but its working so well Im going too stick with it.
TurkeyHunter
Re: 100 Grain Triple 7 vs 150 grain I'm using pellets and I use (2) 50 grain = 100 grain. Ive hunted 4 seasons with it and killed 4 deer but never had to shoot over 75 yards.
