Re: Big Ten

I almost got this bad boy the Thursday before Christmas. I got in my stand around 2:15 and it wasn't 15 minutes later when I spotted some does comming in from my left. I stood up and grabbed my bow hoping a good buck was with them. After 10 does came by I could see antlers moving through the brush. I knew it was a big buck so I got ready and picked out a shooting lane. The buck however took a different trail that was a little further away and I only had one small spot to shoot. There were two small branches between me and the buck and the wind was blowing at a good 20-30mph. I was drawn back when the buck stepped into my lane and stopped right on cue. 45 yards, shoot or don't shoot? I let my bow down and decide to let him walk. I figured, even though I know I can make that shot under ideal conditions, it's not worth the risk of putting a less than ideal shot on this deer. What good does it do me to wound him and he runs off, dies on some neighboring property, and somebody else finds him and keeps him. Even though I still haven't seen this buck since that day, I still think I did the right thing, and I hope he will make another mistake and come by my stand again. At least this is what I keep telling myself!! Gotta love this sport!
