Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Can anyone tell me how deep the throat on a 7mm Ultra amg should be. I cant seat a bullet to touch the rifling.
AJ
Re: Throat question I don't have an exact measurement for you but I do know it will get deeper each shot. I would imagine it to be deep enough to not allow you to touch them with ammo that fits the magazine. Unfortunately, its not uncommon. Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Re: Throat question This is a new rifle less thatn 25 shots. I can seat a bullet just barely in and it wont touch. Im using long bullets too.
AJ
Re: Throat question Have you used one of the Stoney Point OAL Gauges to check depth? It's actually a very cool tool that allows the shooter to monitor throat erosion. It will quickly show you exactly how deep the throat is. Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Re: Throat question I looked at those this past weekend and couldnt find the 7mm ultra case to fit it. Could I possible buy the 300 Ultra and run it through my 7 die and use it? They did have the 300 in stock.
AJ
Re: Throat question You could do that, but the neck will be too tight. Stoney Point offers the 7mm RUM. You can get it directly from them. I make my own. I drill and tap my fired cases in my lathe so they are fireformed to my chamber. Its a perfect fit. The tap is a 5/16-36 tpi.
