py_archer
Passed on going to the Amish game farm and took my 9 yr old out Monday morning. He shot a Doe at 40 yds with a .410, it ran right near us and layed down at about 10 yds. It was bleeding out the mouth and I was going to finish it off when he said "let me do it", I said okay and as he was moving into position it got up and took off. Crap! We found it though 40 yds further in the brush dead. We gave thanks to the Almighty and he put his tag on it. I noticed a single teer in the corner of his eye but did'nt say anything. He thought it was cool how the hairs went flying when he hit it with the slug. He was okay with it. A warm Tuesday morning I seen a woodland frog and on a snowy Sunday evening a flock of snow geese flew over my oldest Son and I. In between I saw 14 Bucks but never fired the ML. Took the safety off on Tuesday at a widerack Buck I've been trying to get. Jumped him in the wind as he was about to enter a bedding area. Brought the ML up but he disappeared over a rise a mere 25 yds away. Hurried to that spot and again shouldered my weapon just in time to see him melt into the brush. I seen a good tined 8 on Saturday in a group of 5 Bucks but decided to pass on him with a firearm. Back to the Bow now with next week looking good and the 2nd rut coming. Then the week after Christmas I'll be carrying the ML again. I love this time of year!!
Nut
Re: Ohio Slug Season Recap Congrats to you and your son We had a fun week. My wife took her first shot ever at a deer but missed. The rest had chances but no deer in the freezer this week.
WHISKEYSWAMP
Re: Ohio Slug Season Recap I never fired the ML all week either. I had chances at several small bucks and does but didn't take them. The last couple of days I was doe hunting but none offered a good shot. It's back to the bow for me and ML in a couple of weeks. It was a weird week of hunting... in the 70s for opening day and in the teens on the last day.

py_archer
Re: Ohio Slug Season Recap Thanks for the reply's. Been talkin to some other Deer hunters. Some big Deer taken and "lost". A group of 12 hunters took 10 BBBC bucks, their best year ever. The do it by pushing Deer. They have alot of spots that they've been hunting for years. Another guy shot what he said was a 22 pointer at the end of the day. When he and his buddy went back in the dark with a flashlight they tracked it to a creek where they found him alledgedly packing mud in his wound. When they shined the light on him he freaked out and took off according to the witness. Searched for two days with no sign. Somebody at a hunting camp down around Whalhonding shot 35 times and had to go get more shells. Theres a group of guys that hunt around Danville that drive Deer with as many as 40 guys. Have not ran into any of them yet but they kill Deer.

I know the guy who lets us hunt drives his property with some other guys. Ohiobucks is one of them, maybe he knows the group you're talking about. I can tell you one thing about Danville. If I ever teach in another district, or move out of Licking county, I'm moving to Danville. I have never seen, or been in a tighter community. Everyone knows everyone, and everyone respects each other's land. I love hunting there because I know when I'm hunting their land, nobody's going to tresspass on the land. I love that feeling, knowing that you're going to have an undisturbed hunt, and peace of mind.
