ladydiehard
Re: Deer dropping horns already! Yup! I shot a 5 point with the muzzleloader last Saturday and when we grabbed the antlers to drag it out, one came off.

MUDRUNNER
Re: Deer dropping horns already! I've found sheds as early as the third week in December here in Illinois,so it could be possible.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Deer dropping horns already! I hope they aren't dropping in Michigan, I plan on going out some more. Then again the temperatures have really dropped and that may be the result of why some are dropping.
Tominator
Re: Deer dropping horns already! Hmmmmm. Interesting. I saw 2 bucks last week. Both still had their full set.
rockefeller66
Re: Deer dropping horns already! Seems weird to me too, The deer that drop this early probably have something wrong with them or they just had their rack busted off during the rut. fisherguy
Re: Deer dropping horns already! If a deer is dropping antlers this early it is not likely going to make it through the winter.
MadHuntinPastor
Re: Deer dropping horns already! I thought it involved the hormones. So if the rut has been over for awhile the hormones slow down and the antlers start to fall. Is this true? I heard a buddy saw a fork horn with only one side last week. fisherguy
Re: Deer dropping horns already! I have been told it has to do with the health of the deer, and the hormone levels both reaching a low point. THe only animals i have seen shed this early(moose and deer) were very old, or sick for some other reason.
buckbuster11
Re: Deer dropping horns already! Yup, they are coming off around here too. My buddy stumbled across a massive 5 point shed yesterday while dragging out a doe he had shot. I seen it with my own two eyes.
camelNS
Re: Deer dropping horns already! I found a real nice 5 point shed last year on Dec.5.So it is very possible.I believe it has more to do with hormones and the rut being done than anything else. Guest tyshe17
Re: Deer dropping horns already! In TN we are I have only ever heard of a couple of bucks with sheded antlers and these were in January. I did kill what I thought to be a big body doe last year around thanks giving, but it was a 2 1/2 year old buck that had both antlers broken off 1 inch from his head...that was kinda disapointing

camelNS
Re: Deer dropping horns already! you fellas are down south and everything down there happens later than it does up north, which includes the northern states and Canada. joebobhunter4
Re: Deer dropping horns already! i think some either broke off or were shot off... unless maybe they are? i seen some bucks with 1 antler but i was thinkin either shot off or broke,,,
ilhunter1986
Re: Deer dropping horns already! maybe happening here in illinois. i saw one half rack about 400 yards off but i couldnt tell if it was busted off or fell off
BowJoe
Re: Deer dropping horns already! I would also say busted off instead of shed. I have never seen or heard of shed antlers earlier than January around here. I could see where Canada and Upper country might see a few or Wis. and the hard hit winter states. Just not in my neck of the woods.
Guest OHBUKMSTR
Re: Deer dropping horns already! huntn4bucks
Re: Deer dropping horns already! No chance of that this far south. Heck, the deer haven't really even started rutting yet.
Tony
Re: Deer dropping horns already! i have found sheds here in Iowa right at Christmas time i think it was 3 years ago... but the weather has to be bitter cold like it is now. the amount of stress that it puts on the bucks makes them drop.. so i think it could be possible. Chrud
Re: Deer dropping horns already! They are in Wisconsin. A neighbor shot one during T-Zone today that the horns had fallen off of already.
