ousoonerfan22
Since we had snow on the ground today I tried calling for the first time this year. This afternoon I setup on the back of a pond dam that has a brushy draw behind it,I shot two coyotes out of this same draw last year.I called once waited a minute or two then started calling again looking to my left when I turned to look to my right there was a coyote facing me about 50 yards away. She seen me raise the .17hmr and starting trotting away but I got lucky and dropped her.I then drove to the property I've been deer hunting and climbed in my stand and called but didn't see a thing.I've had coyotes open up within 200-300 yards of this stand almost every evening that I hunted out it this year plus I seen a bobcat there a couple of weeks ago.I might need to try one of those howling calls since these coyotes have been hunted for years.Do the mouth blown howling calls work? ousoonerfan22
Re: first yote of the season Thank You! Yes,a friend hunts coyotes on the adjoining property where I deer hunt.I know the coyotes are getting educated to calling there I just figured this years pups might come in. I've been skunked the last two times I tried calling so does it need to be extremely cold to increase the odds of bringing a coyote in? I bought a Primos howler but I need to practice with it some before trying it. Brian
