AJ
If you hit it with a PB at 50 yards, it will leave a trail. I would venture to say you missed or were off a bit and hit it too far back. What kind of groups did you get with 150 gr of Pyrodex and PB bullets? too_pointer
Re: muzzleloader failure I use powerbelts with good results, hard to imagine not even finding any hair Sorry to hear you lost him, better luck on the next one too_
lil hunter
Re: muzzleloader failure Look all around the area, not just where you think you hit him. The blood trail may not have started until after he had run 10-20 yards. That's what happened with my buck. There was nothing where I shot him, we found blood about 20 yards away from the spot. LETMGROW
Re: muzzleloader failure Look ...Look ...Look! That deer is probably dead but doesn't know it. Many times we think we miss but don't. A pass through isn't always good either. If the bullet expands as designed it may not go in and out. Keep looking You'll find that deer dead! Often times a deer may travel several yards before starting to leave a blood trail. They are Quick and tough! If you look hard enough you'll find it. Good luck!!!! WABS
Re: muzzleloader failure I've shot powerbelt bullets for years and taken many deer with them. Every deer that I've made a solid shot on was obvious at sight of impact and blood trail. I've never had a whitetail go further than 100 yards after impact. At 50 yards you wouldn't have needed to see it you should have been able to hear it.
johnf
Re: muzzleloader failure I'd check the gun. I did the same thing last week. It was a 60 yard shot right in the boiler. She should have dropped flat, but after the smoked cleared she just stood there, then trotted off. The next day I went out and shot again. I was 4" L and 3 low at 25 yards. I figure where I was aiming and the distance, the bullet went about 2" below her belly. No deer, no blood, hair or sign. I figure it was a clean miss.
