Re: Deer ate what?

I was a professional melon-picker. (Not really, but I worked for a farmer for a few years and all we did was pick watermelons and canteloupes) Yep...the deer bust open the melons and eat them. One that surprized me was coyotes eat them!!! I had no clue until I started working for him. Coyotes are worse than deer about them. Crows are pretty bad too. He finally started putting these "baby-boomboxes" out every night and they stayed away...until they get used to them. They also have propane canons that sound like a gun going off at certain intervals. If you have any other melon questions....I'm here grin.giftongue.gif

Re: Deer ate what?

They eat everything up here except the hot peppers they may try one but after that they will no longer try it. They will eat everything else though. They like melons, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, greens, onions, celery, beans, peas, squash, etc.

Re: Deer ate what?

i've seen deer eat a lot of stuff over the years, from dead leaves, to poison ivy.

and, of course, if you read my other post about my marauding deer, one ate two kinds of oak leaves, bachelor button flowers, peas and maple leaves. it wouldn't surprise me at all that they eat peppers and melons.

i know my dog eats both melons and peppers. i usually find out when he breathes on me. grin.gif
