ultratec1
Re: 2006 Competition scores If things weren't bad enough last weekend the lights went out the last 3 ends. I mean lights went out in the whole place AND THEY MADE US SHOOT IN THE DARK!!!!!!! I dropped 9 points the last 3 ends. I literally couldn't see the target. I had to look out around my pin to find the top target then gradually work my way down to the lower left then to the right. It was not a good day. NYBUCK
Re: 2006 Competition scores Well I went from shooting my worst week ever last week to shooting my best last night. Its funny cause I didn't think I was shooting all that well, wasn'r concentrating and then it just all came together. I ended up with a 294 with 28 x's. Finished up the last end with 25 and 5 x's. Here are my results thus far .... So far in the league ... Week 1 287 29 x's Week 2 285 22 x's Week 3 287 22 x's Week 4 287 26 x's Week 5 292 22 x's Week 6 291 27 x's Week 7 284 24 x's Week 8 294 28 x's
Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores i shot the Iowa State Indoor today. i shot very well and i shot my best score ever at the State indoor. i shot 300-54 X . it wont get me a medal in the Freestyle class , but its a good shoot for me. it was the first tourny that i had a consistant mental game to go to. i simply concentrated on the center and let the form do the job. the only Xs i missed were the ones that i lost focus on. my next and last indoor shoot for the year is the NFAA Indoor Nationals in Louisville kentucky. i will be there shooting at 8 am next saturday in the Freestyle class. im going to shoot the same way i did for State Indoor. just focus on the center and let my form put them in there . MCH
Re: 2006 Competition scores Good shooting Tony! Well, today was my first day shooting in an Open class for 3-D. I didn't do too well.. I actually put the Toxonics sight on last Sunday but I didn't get a chance to sight it in completely until this morning. I got up at 7 so I could get my 30 and 40 dialed and used the club's 50 yard bale to get my 50 yard spot down. Anyway, right off the bat we start on target 26. A deer at 37 yards with multiple limbs in the way. I set the sight on what I believe the correct yardage is and let her fly. The arrow clips one of the limbs and sails just by the neck of the deer!! And with that, my confidence dropped. For the first ten targets, I shot 23 down! Then came the 11th target. A deer at 52 yards. I X'd it! Confidence soaring I shoot 7 up for the remainder of the tourney! I ended up with a 284 which while not good enough to place was respectable enough for me to be proud of since it was my first tourney. The targets that I actually had problems with were the ones between 25 and 35. Not sure if my sight is on the money at those ranges but I know they are for anything 40-55. I X-d every target over 40. Plan on skipping next week but will be back in the open class come the following week.
Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores darn good shooting there kevin. isnt it funny how just a shot or 2 can turn a whole day around ? oh i fogot to say that i also shot my first 3d today. after the state shoot i then went with a buddy to Afton iowa for a 40 target 3D. my range estimation was pretty good . but they had a mountain lion that was really brushy. i couldnt see how to get an arrow through there , so i tried and got a zero. which didint upset me when i pinwheeled the ram that was 41 yards right next to it. scoring was 10, 8 ,5... i finished with 364 with the zero. not bad for the first time out. i got real tired towards the end . seeing how i shot 70 arrows at the state shoot that morning. me and tim had a blast and i look forward to really getting into 3d after nationals. dg
Re: 2006 Competition scores I went out for my 1st 3D shoot since the ASA Classic in 2004. It was just a local shoot. Found a great bunch of guys to shoot with and made the 30 targets very enjoyable. Shot a 283 with 30 targets and ASA scoring. Had a string of 15 10's and a couple 12's in a row, but 8's in the beginning and end caught up with me and I finished with a 5 on a dang turkey. Oh well, it was fun. I think I'll head to the Augusta, GA ASA Pro-Am the 1st of April.
Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores i sure envy all you southern boys for having all them ASA shoots to go to. that must be a lot of fun and great experience , because your shooting against the best there is in ASA at those big shoots.. a big CONGRATS goes out to Ultratec1.. he came in 2nd place at the Iowa State Indoor in the Bow Hunter Freestyle class (BHFS) this weekend. he shot a 300-55X with a pin and short stabilizer. this is only his second year shooting Indoor competition . i sure hope your not coming into Freestyle yet ... Great shooting BJ you deserve it buddy. i got lucky and placed 3rd in the Freestyle class with my 300-54X. both of us and Jeff are headed to the NFAA Indoor Nationals this friday in Louisville Kentucky. it should be a great time... Canuck2
Re: 2006 Competition scores Tony and Ultratec1 - a hearty congratulations to you both. That's very nice shooting. Looking forward to hearing you (all 3) shoot hot at Louisville. I shot 2 Vegas's (Is plural Vegi? Naaa. ) at the club today. Got 294 11x and 293 12x. I had really good runs in both of them but hit a few bumps where I messed up a couple ends. Provincial Indoors are just a month away but I'll be switching temporarily to 3D next weekend. ultratec1
Re: 2006 Competition scores Thanks Tony, it was just one of those days where things went off good. I just need a audio tape with Mike telling me to keep the pin centered and watch my bubble and I think that I will be o.k.
Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores geez dont tell him that BJ . you never know what he might put on it . isnt it funny how a few words from the right person can seem to make all the differance. the best thing is after Nationals , we can go full steam ahead into 3d season. should be a fun time this summer. Canuck2
Re: 2006 Competition scores Well get a load of this Vegas round : 278-7x. I had no business shooting last night but I went anyway. The pain in my shoulders was excruciating and I couldn't hold on target to save my soul. Should have quit as soon as I saw it was going to be an ugly night instead of persisting and reinforcing some bad habits. So let that be a heads up. Practice only as long as the practice is of value. Tip of the day.
Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores just a small post here for my NFAA Indoor Nationals scores , i shot 300-50X the first day and 300-55X the second day. had a good time and i shot well. lots of room for improvement though. Canuck2
Re: 2006 Competition scores Very nice shooting, Tony. Well, after my fiasco last week, I got a cortizone shot in my shoulder Friday. Yesterday I hit my first 3D event of the year and the shoulder felt great - no pain, no trembling while at full draw. I ended up in 3rd place and was happy with my shot execution; it was my rusty distance estimation that lost me most of my points. So this week I'm looking forward to a Vegas round or two - maybe with slight trepidation.
Canuck2
Re: 2006 Competition scores Happily, my shoulder seems to be cooperating again. No pain and I can hold much steadier on target than I could a couple weeks ago. Tonight : 293-15x
Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores there you go , good shooting C2.. have you found what was making your shoulder sore ? i shot some 3d tonight . i went to a local course and i shot pretty good. only had 5- 8s out of 56 shots. i made a modification to the fiber for my .029 pin and the green fiber now is just great . heres a pic of how i modified my fiber optic length. i also set my pin up so that its from the side . i was told by a pro that its easier to aim at a 10 ring if you can see above and below the pin. i just routed the fiber out the side and around the top and tie wrapped it down. VtBowhunter
Re: 2006 Competition scores Shot my first 3D of the year and shot like crap, lol. Realized after that I was anchoring wrong with the new B.T. Release so that threw me off big time.......now that I have that fixed, I'm driving tacks......and my buddy's arrows, lol. dg
Re: 2006 Competition scores Went to the Augusta, GA ASA Pro-Am this weekend. To many "shoulda-coulda's" and ended up with a 375 and 36th out of 102 archers. 1st day sucked with too many eights and 1 five with a 183. Shot more consistent on day two with a 192 and only 1 twelve. Had a great time though. The rain stopped about an hour before shooting time on Sat. with near 80 degree temps both days. MCH
Re: 2006 Competition scores Well, took my new bow to its first Open Class tourney today. Didn't have time to set a 50 yard notch, decided to just guestimate since our local shoot rarely gets up to 50. Apparently, the guy that sets up the course, a friend of mine, found out that I was gonna be shooting the Orange stakes so he fixed me up! The first four targets started out good: Wolf @ 28: 10 Deer @37: 11 Wolf @40: 11 Axis @32: 10 I step up to the next target and see a caribou out in the pasture. My first impression was that this thing was past 60 yards! I finally narrowed my estimation down to 57 yards. Since my 40 yard notch is set at 30 on my Toxonics, I dial down to 48. Settle over the X and release. My arrow flies 2 feet over the target! Needless to say, the next 5 or 6 targets, I struggled on. After finally getting that shot out of my mind, I settle down and finish with a 260. Noone else shot Open so there weren't any awards given out. I did shot good enough to finish in the top 5 of the hunter class and I was consistently 10 yards further than their stake. Anyway, I get over to my friends house, take a range finder, put his block out and find 45 yards. I dial my Toxonics down to 33(30 is my 40). Logic being that since the Block was so small, I didn't want to overjudge that much. Well, I squeeze of 4 arrows and they're right on the dot in a two inch group! Hmmmmmm. I step back to 50 yards and dial down to 36 using the same logic. Squeeze off 4 arrows and they group right around the dot again! In other words, I shot a 55 yard caribou, with a 48 setting when 40 was probably the right setting. Not sure what 48 actually is, but I'm guessing its over 65 yards... Oh well, for the first tourney with a new bow, I think I did fairly well. Before the tourney, I told my shooting partner that my game plan was to stay within 20 points of him. He shoots real good and shoots from the yellow(hunter) stakes. I finished 15 behind him but with the same amount of X's. Zero's really hurt... Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores Gport i made a post for you in the competition section to answer your questions.. i got to shoot my 03 Protec tonight. just 20 arrows or so to get my Archers Advantage program information. this is just what i have been looking for. the bow just feels so familiar . since its just like my Indoor bow only in camo and slightly heavier poundage but it just feels really good at 29.5 inch draw. it took me 4 arrows to get it dialed in at 20 and then i just went to poppin X after X after X. this bow is now setup and ready to go for this weekends 2 shoots i plan on doing. Tony
Re: 2006 Competition scores well i got to shoot 2 differant 3Ds this past weekend. one was Mid Iowa Archers in Indianola Iowa on saturday. lets just say i wasnt ready for that tough course yet. i shot a dismal 344 . i missed a few ranges by 8 yards and i took a couple of 0's. in my defense from the open stakles i had 5 targets over 50 yards and a bunch around 40 plus. sunday i shot Atlantic and i shot much better. i shot a 378 out of 400 . targets were a little closer, but the Camo Protec im shooting is feeling really good. marks are dead on. my range estimation is not.
