rockefeller66
Last night our neighbor who we have had permission to hunt his land for the last 4 years gave us a call. We have been trying to contact this guy by calling him litteraly a 100 times and stopping at his house just to talk and keep good ends with him. Well he gave my dad a call last night and was acting all weird. He then asked my dad if we shot a deer on his land shotgun hunting? My dad said ya, we got one Sat. morning. Then he said, I seen you drug it out of the timber and drove it out with the 4-wheeler. My dad was like ya, we have done that all the time for the past 4 years. This is where it gets weird, then he goes, "why didn't you guy it? You are always supposed to guy the deer right after you shoot them!" My dad was like we just brought it onto our land to gut it away from the timber so if you or anyone else hunts it the deer aren't spooked by the gut pile. Then he just said that he thought we were up to something and told us to get our stands off there by this winter and as far as now don't hunt it! What do we do, we are gonna do what he said, but what do we say to this guy to make things better!?!?!
VtBowhunter
Re: You gotta read this... I'ld let it go for a while, then maybe next summer go and explan to him why you brought the deer out the way you did, and that you weren't up to anything bad. Outside of that, I'ld say try finding a new place to hunt in case he doesn't let you back on.
popgun
Re: You gotta read this... Trying to make things right, when you don’t understand what is wrong, is a futile battle. Like vtbowhunter said, I would pull my stands and pull out of his property. Let him know that you have pulled your stands, and that if there is anything you have done to upset him, that you would like to make it right with him. Later, I think I would still attempt to visit with him; maybe bring him some roasts and steaks, and just have a friendly visit without mentioning the deer hunting. This may be a case of trying to establish a relationship with him from scratch, and then just hope he invites you to hunt again. He may have just been having a bad day. Good luck. ….popgun
rockefeller66
Re: You gotta read this... we aren't bad people or careless hunters, we take it serious and respect the game, land, and land owners. I can't see where this guy thought wrong but hopefully we can talk things over. I can't see where he would be too mad at us...hopefully we can talk to him about it. rockefeller66
Re: You gotta read this... We are just gonna take the stands off and try to keep it cool with this guy, not gonna bug him about hunting it but just let him know that we aren't mad at him, not going to totaly ruin it.
