Slandering U.S. forces

Chuck Grist

Special to the Sentinel

December 10, 2005

Appearing on CBS' Face the Nation on Sunday, former presidential candidate and Vietnam anti-war activist John Kerry accused our soldiers of "terrorizing" Iraqi women and children. In making such an absurd allegation, he did an injustice to our service members, just as his distorted congressional testimony did over 30 years ago. It would be enlightening to see how al-Qaeda-in-Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi reacted to Kerry's comments.

After finishing his evening prayers, al-Zarqawi probably retired to his personal quarters in a safe house on the outskirts of Baghdad. Being the holy warrior that he is, he put on his smoking jacket, twisted the cap off a Budweiser and lit a Marlboro. He then looked through the news clippings of the day, chuckling to himself and raising his beer in a toast to Kerry.

Then Iraq's most wanted terrorist likely watched, for the hundredth time, the video from al-Qaeda's No. 2 man, Ayman al-Zawahri. From a hole in the hills of Pakistan, al-Zawahri exhorted him to wait patiently until the anti-war movement in the United States forced American troops to withdraw from Iraq, just as they had been pulled from Vietnam. Then, said al-Zawahri, the real fun would begin. Al-Zawahri probably laughed just before he interviewed another group of ignorant young Muslims willing to blow themselves up on his behalf.

Although one can only imagine the pleasure that the terrorists derive from the cut-and-run voices in America, it is important to remember that the insurgents are now at each others' throats because our military forces are taking them down at every turn. Some of the Sunni insurgents are actually looking for a way into the political system, distancing themselves from the brutal acts of terrorism by al-Zarqawi's thugs, acts that have killed scores of innocent Iraqi civilians.

Kerry shows tremendous ignorance in the use of tactics and common sense in warfare. He seems to think that rooting terrorists from Iraqi cities should be done as though the soldiers were selling Girl Scout cookies.

In this country, when SWAT teams with search warrants enter homes to arrest drug dealers or other criminals, everyone present -- including women, children and the elderly -- must watch as the police enter that home, sometimes forcefully, to secure anyone who could potentially be a threat to safety.

When soldiers enter homes in a war zone, they are doing so based on intelligence that enemy forces are there. These are not drug dealers, but terrorists who will kill if given the opportunity. When our forces enter such a home, they don't have time to politely make sure those inside are not praying. They are going to enter forcefully and will handcuff anyone they feel might be a threat. This could include men, women and even some older children. Once the home is secured, they will detain only those who need to be detained.

Fortunately, American troops see through the shrill rhetoric of one-dimensional politicians like Kerry. They know that such people are short-sighted and self-serving. Service members know they are making a difference in Iraq. That is just one reason the re-enlistment rate is so high.

Our men and women in uniform are committed to finishing their mission and ensuring a complete victory. They also care deeply about the Iraqi people. The acts of kindness of our soldiers are well-known in that country but under-reported everywhere else.

One day al-Zarqawi will be sitting in his safe house reading the latest edition of Playboy magazine when American soldiers smash down his door and point the muzzle of an M-4 carbine at his surprised and terror-filled face.

Some of our hand-wringing politicians may be ready to give up, but our American warriors will never quit.

1 Question.....Do you watch the news?

[/ QUOTE ]

No I do not. There is no truly impartial news source anymore.

The article is alot of conjecture , no exact quotes it seems. He spins a good story though and lets those who read it to be what they want to hear. So to me it is just another blog.

My condolences to you for being republican. tongue.gifgrin.gif

Good one!!!!! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

But seriously though, you mean to tell me you don't see anything wrong with Kerry calling our troops terrorists? Sounds like just another typical dem trying to hard to make the current administration look bad. But also the news is saying since he made this statement our military is more and more republican. Just like Dean, it seams every time he opens his mouth, he has too insert both of his feet! LMBO!!!!

LIfe, I would have to see exactly and entirely in context to see what was said before making a personal judgement.

Re: ?????????? Kerry ??????????

Below is the web site where you can read a transcript from this particular episode of "Face the Nation", aired on December 4th. John Kerry does not call our troops terrorists, the context of the comment was in relation to talking about the transfer of authority to Iraqi security forces and how our military should transfer operations of midnight raids on Iraqi homes. He did not say that our troops were randomly terrorizing Iraqi civilians because it's fun, which was the way it was alluded to earlier in this thread. The link is there, read it for yourself if you choose. It's at the bottom of page 4 and top of page 5.

Yeah ok so then he didnt say that. I was wondering why there wasnt a blow up on TV. Thanks Sluggo! Your not bad for dem! grin.gif

BTW, how did you find this? I put on a search for Kerry and this was all I found. Where did you get this trans-script?

[/ QUOTE ]

I went to the Face the Nation website on CBS news and saw where last week they had John Kerry on the show , clicked on that link and they had a link for a transcript for that particular interview. That was my intuition as well, if he had outright said our troops were terrorists there would have been a big blowout on the news about that, heck, Bush probably would have scheduled a televised speech in front of a group of troops at a military base like all his other speeches reiterating the same things he's been saying for the last 3 years. smirk.gif

Saying the same thing because he is willing to make a decision and stand behind it - and consistent because he doesn't flip-flop. He says the same thing regardless whether in front of a friendly audience or not. And other President's haven't staged their audiences?

Re: ?????????? Kerry ??????????

The way I see it......It seems when a democrat says something it is ik to read into what he/she is saying in order to reenforce what ever point is going to support the party the most. When a republican soeaks they are to be taken at their word. The United States is a world power..... We have a responsibility as a world leader to help and mentor those that need it. The USA did not become a World Leader by spinning politics to make one party or the other look or bad. We did it with intestinal fortitude, A belief in god and justice. Once we were United in our goals and beliefs. Now we have the Cook Leftists lobbying for power instead of backing a decision to follow our Nations responsibilities as a leader. It is OK to disagree and even debate, that's the beauty of this great nation. But the more I hear the more I regrett my decision to serve in the Army so I could do my part to defend the very people who are actively and very vocally protesting and undermining every thing that I do...... To all of you Libs out there... I am sorry that I have defended you and lost family and friends in combat so that you could continue this barage of insulant disrespect. People have died for you in many wars, giving you the freedoms that you blatantly take for granted. I am sick of it. I hear that you only have the troops welfare in mind.. If this is true the best thing you could do right now is SHUT YOUR PIE HOLES and stand behind your President, That my friends is how you support your troops! "If you can read this; thank a teacher. If it is in english; thank a SOLDIER."
