silentgate
I shoot Federal 130 gr. ballistic tips in my .270. Here's my question: Does switching brands of ammo to a Winchester or Remington 130 gr. ballistic tip change the overall accuracy? Is it a slight difference or can it be a huge difference? Gator
Re: .270 ammo Could go either way I would think, but you never know till you take'em to the range and find out! Better to find out then your a little off than to have a monster in your crosshairs and find out your way off!
JimT
Re: .270 ammo The difference can be pretty big... I would shoot in the new stuff for sure.
wtnhunt
Re: .270 ammo Yep, can make a pretty big difference. I switcehd a few years ago from 150 grain core lokts to 130 grain winchester power point plus back to 150 grain core lokts and had to make adjustments to my scope with each change. Seems like the winchester ammo shot groupings about 1.5 inches high and right at 100 yards from where the core lokts hit.

[/ QUOTE ] Under 100 yards I don't think so, but I don't use factory loaded ammo for hunting. I like to use my own reloaded ammo, as all rifle shoot the same load differently. AJ
Re: .270 ammo Yes, it can. Most guns shoot different types of ammo differently. Even if its the same weight. One bullet may shoot better than another bullet that weighs the same or even has a similar construction. Buy a couple different ones and see what shoots best for your situation. Don't just buy some cheap stuff to zero the scope and buy good ammo to hunt with without firing it on paper. I often use different ammo to get the scope dialed in then fine tune with my hunting ammo. It saves some $.
robk
Re: .270 ammo i shot a 130 grain reload that worked outstanding in my 270 when i had it and the rounds were excellent using a sierra soft point and 47.3 grains of imr 4831 with a winchester primer and it was heaven to shoot. would definately make you happy camper but if the ballistic tip is shooting good then i woould say stay with it and there may be little to a makor change in how the bullet flies for you from one brand of ammo to another but keep checking it out and if you decide or have someone who will reload for you then go with what i used it was shooting groups inside a quarter and plenty of speed an dknock down powewr good luck rob k
too_pointer
Re: .270 ammo I shot some different brands in my .270, and it did change! I have always shot Rem.150 grn. core-lokts, tried the Federal premium, went back to the Rems.I had a slight change, but that was it. The Rems. were priced alot cheaper, and was fine for the ranges I shoot. In my Rem. 7400, the Rems were just fine. If I needed to shoot 200+ yards I would probably go back to the Federals. Longer ranges might make a difference. too_pointer
OJR
Re: .270 ammo Different ammo, different groups! Same with handloading. Find the most accuracte, adjust your scope for it and stay with it.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: .270 ammo Good advice OJR----I use the same load for everything from antelope, deer, bear to bull elk. CB
