ODH Posted December 12, 2005 Report Share Posted December 12, 2005 I just bought some new 33 inch carbon arrows. I was wodering if they are too long and I should cut them down. I havent shot w/ them yet, but I might just to see how they shoot. Does anyone shoot these long of arrows. I know that you should have them the length of your spec.( draw length...ect), but im not using release right now. dg Posted December 12, 2005 Report Share Posted December 12, 2005 Re: arrows to long? If the arrows are a heavy spine, they may work just fine. Shoot them and see before you cut them down. Generally arrows are 3/4" tp 1" in front of your arrow rest upon draw. Some people shoot a longer arrow and some at the very edge. Biggest thing is safety. I know that the boardhead is out away from my hand. I dont think that is the reason I really wasnt sure how long to cut them but that is how I like them. Canuck2 Posted December 13, 2005 Report Share Posted December 13, 2005 Re: arrows to long? A couple things to consider: 1) The longer an arrow is, the softer its effective spine is. Depending on the poundage of your bow, they may currently be too soft and not fly consistently for you. Or if they are shortened, they may then be too stiff. This needs to be determined before arbitrarily cutting them shorter. 2) If you do cut them, be certain to use the proper tool.
