Congrats.

HSOG... I called and asked my state's DNR once about this after allowing a squirrel to get away because I was 10 feet from the road. They said I would have been legal to shoot as long as I did not fire along the road or across. I don't know the regs in ND but what I read briefly said just as long as you are not in a vehicle?

If I read correctly you jumped out of the truck and then shot him. Sorry hammer, just not my idea of "deer hunting" which is the section this is in. Even on the last day, there is always next year. Maybe harsh, but it is my .02$

well wed tried sneakin up on them before that and they spotted us about 200 yards and took off over the hill so we quick ran back and they were there... and its only my 3rd buck ever so i dont care if it was a mile belly crawl or a jump outa the truck because hes a buck no matter what in my book

For all the times I read "Git r done"(which I take to mean "whatever works") on this forum I am ashamed to see so many of you questioning the tactics used here. He spotted a buck managed to get out of his truck without spooking it and then made a perfect shot to drop the buck in its tracks...That sounds like hunting to me, ethical legal an it put meat in the freezer and possibly a rack on the wall...what more can you ask.

If you personaly decide to pass on that shot, great that is your choice. But don't rag on someone else for taking the oportunity for a perfectly legal and ethical shot!

Well Done and Congrats on a nice buck!

My 2 cents.

When something is illigal in our home state and has been for a significant length of time ie. crossbows, 223 (cal. smaller than .24), baiting deer, minimum point rules, or shooting from the road we tend to eqate that with being somehow imoral or unethical.

While if you were in Arkansas you would be a poacher in every sence of the word and I would say throw the book at you. But, we have very specific hunting conditions that make it very dangerous to hunt from the roads. It looks by the pictures posted that there was no livestock or houses around and apparently you broke no laws.

I wouldn't do what you did here because it's illegal here. If it weren't, I would hope for as good a shot as you got on him.

Congrats on a fine buck.

my input: sounds like a 2 track road would be an old dirt road off the main highway most likely used by a farmer to get to his land.

if they were saying hey, you know, we might as well go check that field before we go home and got lucky, then so be it. congrats to you on harvesting a nice buck, i'm sure he'll be good eating. don't be too hard on a guy because he wanted to fill his freezer, as long as he harvested the deer in a legal manner for his area.

First off Congrats on the nice buck.

Second no one here should be jumpping to conclusion as to weather he should have shot this animal from a road way. If you don't have all the info don't comment. Every state has a there own laws concerning this matter. For all we could have known he could have been a disabled hunter with a special permit to do so. Here in Montana someone with a disability can get a permit to shoot from inside the vehicle. Sorry to vent but that's just MO

Dont think some of us are really jumping on joebob like it might appear.

Here that type activity would not be legal and would be considered to be poaching. If it was legal where he was hunting then more power to him, I just dont think jumping out of the truck after spotting a deer and taking a shot from a roadway would be for me.

Joe Bob - That last statement is probably much more profound that you realize. Remember what people have said here about your tactics and think about it again when your older, say about 30.

And to everyone else, try to remember what it was like when you were his age and how badly you wanted to get a deer, especially a buck! If you're honest with yourselves, I think you'll understand his point of view a bit better.

Congratulations on your buck Joe Bob!
