The_Kat
Where do I start.....hmmm.... Here goes....My college has a program where you can pay out your college fees in payments based on what you owe by 4 monthly payments. they automatically deduct this from your bank account each month on the 7th. I only owed about 600$ this semester so my payment was about 150$ a month. Well last month I got a statement from the bank for insufficent funds. Surprised I called to see why I was overdrawn and found out the stupid school had charged me 380$!!!! All my checks would have bounced, thankfully none were out at that time. They refunded my money and all was well. Well this month is Christmas and what do I get as an early present. You guessed it...a insufficent funds statement. I already knew what it was before I opened it and sure enough the dang school ripped me once again. Except this time I had checks out which some of the bounced caosting me 22.50 a check! So now I am almost 500$ over drawn in my checking account due to their screw up which was supposed to be fixed. This really irritates me because I keep a perfect checkbook, and I have wonderful credit which these idiots seem to want to try and screw up. So I talked to the buisness office here and chewed on her a good bit and she is trying her best to get it fixed. I told her IT WOULD be fixed and my PENALTIES would be paid and that they WOULD let my bank know it was their screw up and NOT mine. I also told them what a crock their office was and that it had best not happen again. I also told them that if it isn't fixed and fixed to soon to expect a call from my lawyer and he can handle it from there. It really bothers me when I work so hard to establish myself with good credit and as a trusted customer with my bank. Now I look like a kid who doesn't take care of his checking account and got himself into a jam. I am thankful my bankers know me, and are being patient with this. It just irriatates me that these idiots can't get this straightened out. Thanks! KYyle
Nut
Re: Gotta Vent Here! We have had the same happen when we allowed places to electronically get their funds from our checking account. We no longer do that.

huntinsonovagun
Re: Gotta Vent Here! Nothing irritates me more than colleges. I honestly think they TRY to tick their students off. I have called home in tears because of the school financial office!!! I have lost my temper with the people there MORE THAN ONCE. I'm not sure why they can't get their act together. Good luck with it....don't ease up. Stand your ground.
Tominator
Re: Gotta Vent Here! My wife and I pay almost everything electronically. It's easier, and you don't have to worry about missing a payment. But, obviously, there are draw backs. You really have to keep track of what's in and out or you're overdrawn quick. It almost happened to us last week because of buying Christmas gifts. When it comes to big items, like tuition, personally, I'd pay quarter to quarter, or semester to semester. The_Kat
Re: Gotta Vent Here! I agree with you now Tom. It wasn't a big deal. The money was there as I expected the payment. What is eating me up is that they took out 250$ more than they should have and I only had 50$ left over from my bills and the school thing. So when they took the 250$ it made all my bills bounce. I have it where my checks don't bounce to the person who cashes it. I simply get a fee/penalty of 22.50 for each check over my balance. Thats why it is so high because I had like 11 checks out. It is being taken care of. Once I said lawyer she put it on top of her list. Apparently I'm not the only one who they have screwed over this month. I just told her this had better be the last because I was losing my patience. I am not doing it again. I will simply pay it in full at the beginning of each semester. Reloader
Re: Gotta Vent Here! I had the same deal with my Graduate school. They did the exact same thing. Except it was to the tune of $1200 extra(they took an full extra payment). That made the Mortgage bounce(fortunately the bank payed the mortgage but hit us with the fees for it)...When I went to the buisness office they told me they had done exactly what I had authorized and showed me their computer print out. When I insisted that was incorrect and must have been entered wrong from my paper authorization they dug out the files and found my paper authorization. They said something to the effect of: "Here it is and you can plainly see here you authorized....what only 3 payments?!?...we are very sorry let me get the supervisor and see what we can do about this." They gave me a cashiers check before I left the office, including the ammount of the fees I showed them on the bank notices. Unlike your experience though it never happend again for me! Hope they get it straightened out soon.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Gotta Vent Here! .........don't get me started on college fees and their easy to use systems they come up with, from course fees, to screwing people over on buying back books at rummage sale prices, that place makes money hand over fist as the expense of the students. I often had problems with our phone system when it came time to enroll for classes. Wish the people at college learned something at college when they went to make the system easy for everyone! DSGB
Re: Gotta Vent Here! Most of the people in that office are probably students themselves just trying to make some extra money to finance their education. Where I used to go, you could walk in there and ask five people the same question and get five different answers and they were usually all wrong. [/ QUOTE ] I think just about every finance department in a school screws up every once in awhile. It happened to me a couple times. I learned the first time and vowed to take care of every quarter up front. Too much at risk when it comes to college, they hang that little "degree" thing over your head. Mild form of extortion if you ask me. My first experience with screwed up finances was my first VA check--my college lost it. Thankfully, the guy who lost it was prior service, and the director of the finance dept was a good friend of my dad's, so they didn't cancel my classes or anything. They found the check about 3 months later, it had fallen in between two file cabinets. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is, take your tuition off the automatic pay thingy. RangerClay
Re: Gotta Vent Here! I see things have not changed in the 20 years since I was in college. We used to call the financial office the "power tower" because of their God-like attitudes. I used to hate going up there because I knew there was always going to be a fight. I know where you are coming from and I hope everything works out. Ranger

MUDRUNNER
Re: Gotta Vent Here! I've had that happen with other bills that are automatically withdrawn from my acount. It stinks that you had other checks wrote that bounced because of someone elses screw up.Same thing happened to me.After it happened once I switched and now pay all my bills myself, that way I know it's right.Electronic bill paying is easy, but I'm not taking a chance of it happening again.Good luck, hope you get everything straightened out. wtnhunt
Re: Gotta Vent Here! That is why I will never authorizer any automatic payments. I pay a lot of our bills electronically, but I pay them when I am ready and I know how much comes out and when. Hope you get it all straightened out Kyle.
