Re: did you hear??? (STAND ACCIDENT)

Your report was quite right. This incident did indeed happen in Mount Holly, Arkansas to a man named Raybon E. Upton, just last week.

The newspaper account said that his wife knew something was wrong when didn't return home after hunting. She went out to his hunting spot around 8:30 and found him conscious but upside down with his leg caught in the top portion of the stand almost 30' up.

He must have drifted in and out of consciousness, but was conscious when she found him.

She got their local EMT's but they couldn't get him down.

They were able to prop him up somewhat, until a volunteer fire dept. brought a ladder truck.

He did require surgery on his kidneys but is recuperating nicely in a El Dorado, AR hospital.

They also had to surgically cut his legs open to relieve pressure from the muscles, and get his blood flow back to normal..

He was also treated for hypothermia.

His wife said that he thought he was going to die there and had "Made his peace with the Lord."

It was a close call.

Personally, I have no intentions of going up 30', but at least he was wearing a safety harness.

He also told his wife where he would be hunting.

He did a lot of things right, but just slipped.

He probably will be doing commercials for the Hunter Safety System soon on your local Outdoor Channel.

After all; what a good testimonial to a safety system, the incident turned out to be.

very lucky person....just goes to show you always make sure someone in your family or a friend knows where your tree stand is.....just in case something goes wrong and they can find you if you do need help.
