Ravin R10 man
I heard a hunter fell while exiting his stand last weekend. Seems his ankle got caught in a strap and he wound up hangin upside down for 8 and 1/2 hours!!! Rescuers found him around midnight and got him down. He suffered from hypothermia and kidney damage. 007hunter
Re: did you hear??? (STAND ACCIDENT) How can you hang upside down for 8 hours?? Wouldn't all the blood rush to your head and you would eventually loose consciousness??

popgun
Re: did you hear??? (STAND ACCIDENT) Your report was quite right. This incident did indeed happen in Mount Holly, Arkansas to a man named Raybon E. Upton, just last week. The newspaper account said that his wife knew something was wrong when didn't return home after hunting. She went out to his hunting spot around 8:30 and found him conscious but upside down with his leg caught in the top portion of the stand almost 30' up. He must have drifted in and out of consciousness, but was conscious when she found him. She got their local EMT's but they couldn't get him down. They were able to prop him up somewhat, until a volunteer fire dept. brought a ladder truck. He did require surgery on his kidneys but is recuperating nicely in a El Dorado, AR hospital. They also had to surgically cut his legs open to relieve pressure from the muscles, and get his blood flow back to normal.. He was also treated for hypothermia. His wife said that he thought he was going to die there and had "Made his peace with the Lord." It was a close call. Personally, I have no intentions of going up 30', but at least he was wearing a safety harness. He also told his wife where he would be hunting. He did a lot of things right, but just slipped. He probably will be doing commercials for the Hunter Safety System soon on your local Outdoor Channel. After all; what a good testimonial to a safety system, the incident turned out to be. ....popgun
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: did you hear??? (STAND ACCIDENT) wow he is lucky. I just don't get people who feel they have to go up 30' in the tree. I don't get it. Glad he is o.k. though and its something we all must think of when we climb into and out of that stand, need to be safe and take your time.
