Went out with the old muzzleloader in search of a buck yesterday, i haven't seen horns since the first day of rifle season down state and it was a small fork. I started into the woods along the ridge of a deep hollow, scanned the hillsides and stood for about 10 minutes. Started walkin again and about 50 yrds ahead i jumped up a 7 pt. and couldn't get a shot through the brush and he trotted over the hill. I waited about 15 minutes watching the hollow then started on the bucks tracks in the snow hoping to catch him feeding ahead. I trailed him across a flat for a while then through a field up by my one of my stands, out the other side of the field through a thicket, up over the ridge at the top, down through a hollow on the other side the back out of the hollow, across another flat, then he rounded a pt. at the to of the ridge and headed back toward the field ( pretty much in a big circle. As i rounded the pt. i saw deer ahead, a doe, 2 fawns, and a spike. I let them all go cuz i wanted this buck. about 50 yrds. more i ran into a few sets of tracks, and lost him. So i went back to the thicket by the field and waited hoping to cut him off but never even caught glimpse of him again. All that walking and didn't even see that buck again, and i was moving slow, i didn't realize but i walked his tracks for a good 2 hrs. . I get to hunt thurs. evening, all day friday and saturday, so hopefully i get a shot at him or another buck. Then it's back to bow season till dec. 31.
