Re: NEED ADVICE ON ATV WINCHES!!!!!

Widowmaker I'd be hard pressed to buy anything under 2000 lbs. capacity. You've got to remember if you are really mired in mud the actual weight of your machine is multiplied. How much? depends on a lot of factors. Whatever you buy make sure it has at least 50 feet of cable and the cable is at the very least 5/16 in. in diameter. There are several brands out there, most of them good. Check with your dealer. Sometimes the manufacturers have special deals. Most of all BE CAREFUL when using this tool! Read and heed all the instructions.

Re: NEED ADVICE ON ATV WINCHES!!!!!

I was gonna say at least 2000#.

It may only be 580# but thats on a level surface with no resistance.

Put that big boy in a deep mud hole and see how much it weighs. LOL

I have a SuperWinch 2000# on my Polaris Sportman 500 (not sure how much it weights) but it has served me very well.

However there were a couple times it would not pull without using some sort of pulley rigging to double its rating.

BUT I mainly use it to lift and lower my snow plow and deer stands. LOL

If I were to buy again I'd go even more in #s. Also some sort of remote control unit for it.

Re: NEED ADVICE ON ATV WINCHES!!!!!

I want to stand corrected PLEASE? For a winch up to 3000 lb. 1/4 in> cable is good. I have too many winches to keep them straight. Try rolling 50 feet of 5/16 cable on an ATV winch spool and you probably couldn't do it.

My 700 Polaris sportsman has a Warn 2500 winch which works well. I have used it with no problem. Be safe though. Read the safety warnings.!!!These are tools not toys!

well i like the warns and me and all my firnds have warn 2500's on our four wheelers.

now if you want a waterproof (totaly sealed) winch go with the warn 3000.

also ramsey and mile marker are good winches too or so i'v heard. i'v seen problems with the ceap ones that harbor freight and those places sell so stay away from them

Re: NEED ADVICE ON ATV WINCHES!!!!!

i had a 2000 pound warn winch on my polaris and a 2500 pound warn winch on my honda go for the 2500

you will not be sorry you did, have never staklled it and my honda is heavy, its a foreman with 28 inch tires and a lift kit with lockers so its got some weight tto it. also if you get a snach block it will double your wwinch in pulling power.
